Taking down a dead chestnut oak today.

As I suspected it turned out to be hollow. These are dangerous with all that dead canopy weight pressing down on that hollow tube, you have danger of blowouts, barber-chair, etc.

This is why I cut it the way I did, by first taking tension off the sides by boring into the cavity, then releasing the backstrap in two separate cuts.

Also you have to be careful of all that dead canopy up top letting go and coming down on you while cutting or during the fall, which is why I skidaddled out of there rather than remain in the fall zone.

More fallers are killed by falling limbs up top than any other form of accident.

Took down this very large dead chestnut oak earlier today. Trunk turned out to be hollow at the base.

These hollowed dead trees are dangerous because they have a weak base and tons of weight higher up.

Boomer in the Trees -Independent tree climber & cutter.

I'm not a good fit for all property owners. If you need additional services like chipping, stump grinding or haul away you'll do best with one of our local tree companies.

But for the home or property owner who just needs a tree taken down, cut up or trimmed I can usually help and save money.

If you have a tree you'd like down or trimmed back message me on Facebook, email me at [email protected] or text my cell at 826-212-0149 and try to include a few pics of the tree(s) you'd like down or trimmed.

Setting down a dead eastern white pine that was leaning across the road towards the neighbor fence,

Trick was to set it down between the trees and into the center of the road and keep it off the fence.

SERVICES I PERFORM

I am a Faller. I perform 3 services myself. FELLING and TRIMMING and BUCKING Those are the only services I offer. I am not a tree service company or tree removal service. I work slowly as a tree surgeon for difficult trees that require climbing and rigging. I am older ( turning 60 this Summer) and I am careful and precise in my work. I do not accept rush jobs, and I do not set timelines, deadlines, or allow them to be set on trees I cut. I cut all trees based on my experience and safety protocols and time may vary.

FELLING:Felling is bringing the tree down safely to earth and sectioning into three pieces so you can drag it off with a tractor, cut it up yourself, etc. I do not work on a timeline. All trees begin with a 2 week time window and as stated on my website this window can be impacted by weather. Most of my trees are felled same day that I come out for the purpose of cutting, however trees requiring climbing and or rigging or other additional attention can take weeks or longer, depending on the size and difficulty of the tree, proximity to structures or other trees, weather and other unforseen events or impediments. My felling prices tend to be quite reasonable and will usually save you money over anything involving climbing, topping, etc.

TRIMMING\Climbing

Some trees I have to climb and trim down (Topping or limbing) for a safe fall, taking off weight in key areas, etc. Others I may have to climb to trim only. When climbing for felling I may use spikes on your tree. When climbing for trimming I use climbing gear to "rig" the tree for safe climb and rappel, that does not damage the tree like spikes. Climbing and trimming I take on a limited case by case basis.
