I placed in a poetry competition from the Science Fiction Poetry Association (SFPA).
Comment “Yup” and I’ll DM you the link to read it.

My speculative poem, “In Praise of Afro-Cosmicism”, reclaims the vastness of space, time, and being as a source of Black agency and imaginative freedom.

Traditionally, cosmic horror centers on existential dread, insignificance, and madness in the face of an uncaring universe.

Rather than being crushed by the cosmos, the Afro-Cosmic figure expands into it.

My piece is in praise of that expansion.

For real for real.

I wanted to read a sci-fi epic saga centering a Black family. So I wrote it.

My short story, Heirloom, is deeply tied to Blackness and the connections between its past and future.

Climate Fiction Writers League shared the plot:

“a woman’s life in a thriving city of scientific progress is upended when the city’s leaders go on the hunt for an ancient textile. Dru has been hiding it — a dress that connects her not only spiritually, but magically, to her ancestor who sewed the dress during the Jim Crow era.”

Grist’s Imagine 2200 creative manager Tory Stephens interviewed me about the process of crafting Heirloom, what inspired me to explore its themes, and why magic belongs in climate fiction.

I got published!

My short story Heirloom has found a home at Grist.

The plot:

“In a haven city defined by scientific progress, one woman hides a gift from her ancestors that contains a key to the future.”

I’m grateful for the space that Tory Stephens and the Grist team has created.

They’re fostering an environ where storytellers can dream into climate futures, climate equity, and lives that are aligned with the natural world.
