VCBW COMMUNITY UPDATE: POSTING FOR BETTER VISIBILITY, CONNECTION + RESULTS Ventura County Business Women
With nearly 7,000 local business women inside the Ventura County Business Women Facebook community, there is a tremendous amount of potential here for visibility, exposure, referrals, relationships, and business growth.
We want to make sure we are setting everyone up to actually use this community well.
Over time, we have seen the quality of posts inside the group begin to shift. We have also seen a decline in overall active participation, and part of what we are noticing is that repetitive, low-quality, overly promotional, or spam-like posts simply are not getting the same reach or engagement.
So, we are refreshing our Community Posting Guidelines and encouraging everyone to be more intentional about how you show up inside VCBW.
WHAT YOU CAN SHARE
Anyone inside the VCBW Facebook community is welcome to share about their business as long as the post meets our Community Posting Guidelines. (See full guidelines below)
You can share your:
• Business or services
• Products
• Events
• Offers and opportunities
• Upcoming workshops or programs
• Business updates
• Introductions
• Who you are and what you do
• Who you are hoping to connect with
• Questions, resources, recommendations, and conversations that benefit the community
Our full Community Posting Guidelines outline what is allowed, event posting and creation guidelines, promotional content requirements, and more.
POST APPROVAL + POSTING FREQUENCY
Because of the size and activity of this community, we generally approve approximately up to four community posts per hour.
Posts are typically reviewed first come, first served, as long as they meet our posting requirements.
This helps us make sure individual posts actually have an opportunity to be seen rather than allowing the group feed to become overloaded with promotion.
IMPORTANT: Some posts may automatically go into Facebook's Potential Spam section before our moderators ever see them in the regular pending queue.
This is Facebook flagging the content, not necessarily VCBW.
We commonly see this happen when posts:
• Are copied and pasted rapidly into multiple Facebook groups
• Contain very little context or information
• Use excessive emojis or promotional formatting
• Appear repetitive or overly sales-focused
• Look similar to content Facebook is identifying as spam
Posts that are consistently being flagged as spam may be declined.
QUALITY MATTERS:
One of the biggest things we want our community to understand is that posting more does not automatically mean getting more visibility.
We can see engagement and reach from the administrative side of the group.
When someone repeatedly shares the same graphic, same promotion, or nearly identical post, those posts typically begin receiving less engagement, not more.
We want your business to actually get seen.
Instead of repeatedly posting the same promotion, consider changing the conversation.
Tell us who you are.
Tell us why you started your business.
Show us something you are working on.
Share a client win.
Teach us something.
Ask a question.
Tell us who you want to meet.
Share the story behind the service you offer.
Give people a reason to stop scrolling and connect with you.
A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE, NOT JUST PROMOTIONS
We absolutely want you to promote your business here.
But remember that the businesses inside VCBW are run by real women, and people connect with people.
Sometimes a simple photo of yourself with a genuine introduction will outperform a professionally designed promotional graphic.
Sometimes explaining what you do and who you are hoping to connect with will create more opportunity than another sales post.
Sometimes starting a conversation creates more visibility than advertising something.
Use the reach of this community to build relationships, not only impressions.
A NOTE ABOUT AI CONTENT
AI can be an incredible tool for helping create content, write captions, brainstorm ideas, or market your business.
There is nothing wrong with using it.
But we are seeing more and more AI-generated content across social media that begins to look and sound exactly the same.
Be mindful of that.
Whenever possible, personalize your content.
Use a real photo of yourself, your team, your product, your business, your workspace, or your clients when appropriate.
Add your actual voice, perspective, story, and personality.
Authenticity is becoming increasingly valuable in a world where content can be created in seconds.
ECOSYSTEM MEMBERS
VCBW Ecosystem Members have auto-posting privileges inside the community.
Auto-posting means your posts do not need to wait for normal moderator approval, but Community Posting Guidelines still apply.
If content becomes repetitive, spam-like, inappropriate for the community, or does not meet our posting standards, our team may still remove it.
The goal of auto-posting is to give our members additional visibility and access while still protecting the quality of the overall community.
OUR GOAL
These guidelines are not meant to make it harder to promote your business.
They are meant to help your promotion actually work.
There are thousands of local women inside this community.
That is an incredibly valuable audience.
We want the VCBW Facebook group to continue being a place where you can walk in, introduce yourself, share what you're building, find a referral, meet a collaborator, discover an event, ask for help, make a connection, and grow your business.
But protecting that opportunity means protecting the quality of the community too.
Before submitting your next post, take a few minutes to review our updated Community Posting Guidelines.
We also highly recommend reviewing the VCBW Integration Guide, which includes an introduction format and additional ideas for how to intentionally plug into the community.
