GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN WE COME TOGETHER
When great minds, kind hearts and rolled up sleeves across business, government, nonprofits and academia come together, we CAN do incredible things across Housing, Childcare, Transportation & Workforce.

It was an honor to facilitate and work with the talented team at JMU's Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue led by Lori Leonard Britt, Rob Alexander and Kara Dillard along with Amanda Kellogg from JMU School of Professional & Continuing Education.

Orchestrated by the talented team at James Madison University's Office of Economic & Community Development, the summit was a HUGE success in connections, ideas, and actions! Thanks, especially to Nora Sutton, Keith Holland & Anthony Tongen.

AND great to have support with sponsors to make it accessible Virginia Housing, Atlantic Union Bank, JMU School of Professional & Continuing Education, Shenandoah Valley Airport& Shenandoah Valley Partnership!

Invest in People: Health Care Pros building skills & knowledge

Working with good people is what I love to do. The people of Augusta Health give so much to our community, it was wonderful to play a part in the investment in them at Professional Development Day!

What a pleasure to engage with the talented, smart & dedicated health care professionals in 2 workshops: Coaching Your Team as a Leader and Networking for Connections-Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Together we listened, learned and put ideas into practice with role plays in small groups with laughs and learning.

Career Transition: Questions to Consider

When I work with clients exploring their career transitions, one of the first questions I ask is, "what is your story?." Often and for many of us, we are used to telling the story of the organization where we work… we're often good at telling THEIR story.

Telling your own story takes intention and thinking through what you want your story to convey.

Here are 6 questions to get you started on your career transition.
1. What's your Story?
2. Does your resume reflect your story? It's YOUR story to tell.
3. What's important to you in your career?, e.g., culture, leadership, title, scope, mission, pay, benefits, flexibility, etc.
4. What is your "elevator pitch" or SOAR story?
5. Which organizations embody your values?
6. Who do you know that works there, knows someone or knows someone who knows someone?

How you proceed matters. Let's talk it over.

How we connect: 3 Degrees of Kevin Bacon

I've told folks that running a business and engaging in the community in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia is 3 degrees, not 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon

In a matter of weeks, I had the pleasure of working with Bekka Harsh at the Shenandoah Valley Partnership for my podcast interview with Jay A. Langston, Ph.D.. Check it out and MORE stories of amazing people in the hashtag - link below

Bekka Harsh then introduced me to Nora Sutton, MA, MPA who works at the James Madison University's Office of Economic & Community Development.

She in turn introduced me to Rob Alexander at JMU's Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue

Each of them wonderful and generous, Rob invited me to be a lead facilitator at the upcoming at the Shenandoah Valley Collaborative Economic Summit. I'm IN!

I, in turn, invite YOU to learn more, sign up and come out to this FREE community engagement event and find your own 3 degrees of Kevin Bacon!

Leaders DO have fun, laugh and learn!

What FUN it was to be invited by the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge to facilitate a discussion about Building Better Boards with a wonderful and engaged group of nonprofit leaders in the Shenandoah Valley.

What joy to hear my favorite local journalist Randi B Hagi at WMRA Public Radio covering one of my favorite nonprofits (and first client of X-Roads Advisory) Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta led by the humble, smart and resourceful Sharon Geer Coplai.

Listen about the critical work that Renewing Homea Of Greater Augusta does to provide critical home repairs for income homeowners to stay housed and make their homes safe, dry & accessible. Please consider supporting their work with donations of money and supplies, and volunteering time, expertise, ties and testimony.

Nonprofit repairs homes for Augusta County people in need from WMRA Feature Stories on my WMRA app! https://www.wmra.org/2024-07-17/nonprofit-repairs-homes-for-augusta-county-people-in-need

A local nonprofit has been helping low-income residents fix up their homes for 30 years. WMRA's Randi B. Hagi visited a project site and filed this report.

It was a pleasure to work with the team at (Jennifer Kirkland & Georgi Tomisato) to put together a green event checklist for organizations (and individuals) to consider when planning events to make them impactful on your celebration while lowering the impact on our community and planet!

From setup to catering to more, check it out -and share widely, please.

The idea was born at a discussion of nonprofit leaders assembled by earlier this year!
