On December 14, 2023, Yale announced they only admitted 9% of early applicants, marking the lowest early admit rate in over two decades‼️
Out of a pool of 7,856 applicants, only 709 applicants received admission. Of the remaining applicants, 1,531 students (20%) were deferred to the regular decision pool, and 5,537 students (70%) were denied admission.
According to this data, there has been a shift in the admissions process starting with the Class of 2025.
The admissions office previously preferred to defer applicants until the regular decision date in spring. Now, there has been a recent push to reject a greater number of applicants in the early action round.
Why? There are 2 reasons for this change:
1️⃣ The significant increase in applications.
2️⃣ Feedback from colleagues from high schools throughout the country suggesting that providing final decisions sooner would be more beneficial.
The result?
Early Decision/ Early Action is becoming the new Regular Decision and getting an acceptance letter from your dream college has become a more challenging feat than ever before.
With the rise of college applications, students are feeling the pressure to make their applications stand out, but how can you outshine a larger pool of qualified applicants?
