🤔 Conspiracy or Coincidence? You tell us.

You've probably seen it by now — videos and posts claiming farmers across the Midwest are finding mysterious boxes of ticks dumped on their land. Some versions say they're genetically modified. Some say it's connected to the new Lyme vaccine. Some just say "government" and let your imagination do the rest.

The rumor appears to have started in early 2026 from a self-described holistic doctor who claimed farmers were reporting boxes of ticks in their fields — though she later admitted she received the information secondhand and couldn't provide any proof.

Snopes investigated the Missouri version. NBC Chicago contacted Illinois health officials. Neither found any evidence to back it up. Scientists who study ticks say the real driver behind exploding tick populations is climate change — ticks showing up earlier, expanding into new territory, and biting more often than they used to.

But here's what IS undeniably true — conspiracy or not:

🦠 Ticks ARE getting worse. They're showing up earlier in the year and expanding into new terrain.
☠️ Nearly 50% of deer ticks in Minnesota carry Lyme disease bacteria.
🥩 Alpha-gal syndrome — the tick-transmitted red meat allergy — is surging across the region.

⚠️ Tick season in lake country isn’t just a summer thing — and the stakes are higher than ever.
Ticks in Minnesota are active as early as March, as soon as the snow melts. Adult ticks typically start moving in March, peaking through May, June, and July — well before most families think to worry about it.
In some parts of Minnesota, nearly 50% of adult ticks now carry the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.
