Why you need a graphic designer in your life
Love it or hate it… we all have something to say that needs to be heard by others… we all have something to present that needs to be seen by others….. it could be an idea, a believe, a vision, a message, a product, a service, something you do or just plainly whats on your mind. Whatever it is, the way you present it could make the big difference between people accepting it and buying into it or not. The question is "How much time, effort, and money are you willing to invest to make what you believe in and intend to communicate look good and feel good?
I believe in visual effects. Am of the school of thought that visual appeal is very powerful. Visual appeal is important in whatever you do… its important to your career, business and personal life. You’re better off with something that looks professional and amazing to your audience/clients. When I enter a place that is visually appealing, I want to stay, when I enter a place that is visually unattractive, I want to leave very quickly.
Statistics show that… the sense of Taste records 1% of all impressions we receive, Touch records 1.5%, Smell records 3.5%, Hearing records 7%, and sight 87%. We also know from research that… We remember 10% of what we hear, 50% of what we see, and 80% of what we see, hear and do. I believe that all these are pointers to the fact that visuals are powerful. Visuals are so powerful that they can change your life forever. What you see and the visual effects of your immediate environment has a very powerful, compelling effect on your mind and your action/behavior. What you see affects your thoughts, emotions and subconscious and ultimately influences your actions and your behaviour.
You must understand that the world is currently experiencing what is being referred to as “information overload”, and the human mind produces as many as 12,000 to 50,000 thoughts everyday. Therefore to get into their crowded thoughts and get noticed, you must be able to capture their attention.
You need to have more than just a message, you must have a message that is packaged in a form that is appealing, attractive, attention grabbing, irresistible….. yes, I mean something that would “wow” people. You don’t have an unreserved right to be heard or seen… you have to earn it, you attract it, you create it. Don’t slap people on the face with your message, however good it may be…. rather make them desire it, long for it, reach out for it. You must creatively seek to draw your target audience like a moth to a flame.
Graphic design helps you create a communication media that is cute, pretty and attractive to your target audience, but it goes further than just making something pretty. The purpose in graphic design is to assist in understanding the information you place in front of your audience/clients. Graphic design makes information less boring, more appealing to the senses and simpler to assimilate.
Visual appeal, which is one of the cornerstones of graphic design is important to attracting people, capturing their attention and getting them to notice what you are presenting (in visual form). As an adage goes, a picture or a graphic as the case may be here, is worth a thousand words. So a good graphic may make the difference between you selling or not selling your idea, product or service. Its going to make a difference between people listening to/seeing you or not. Earn the right to be heard today…. Be graphically compliant.
