One reminds you that you're not alone.

The other can leave you waiting for permission to move.

And I wonder how many capable people are waiting for someone else to recognize what they've already carried.

The experience.
The growth.
The leadership.
The sacrifices.
The strength it took to keep showing up.

Recognition matters. Especially when it creates access to opportunities.

But your worth didn't begin the moment somebody finally noticed you.

This was one of my biggest reflections from the ACT Now Education MilSpouse Fellowship Summit.

What if the permission you've been waiting for was never anyone else's to give?

Your goals matter.

Your voice matters.

Your next chapter matters.

You don't need permission to recognize your own worth.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn't another resource.

It's the realization that someone finally sees you.

Not your role. Not your responsibilities.

YOU.

And sometimes that's where the breakthrough begins.

I couldn't let today end without sharing this.

Some leaders don't just influence your career.

They become the standard by which you measure your own leadership.

Today, at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2026 Annual Meeting & Exposition, among hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of people, I was reminded of that.

I didn't see him first.

He saw me.

One of my favorite commanders. And one of the finest human beings I've ever had the privilege of serving alongside.

There he was, with the biggest smile.

And just like that, years of memories came rushing back.

This was a leader who understood something powerful.

The mission mattered. Absolutely.

But so did the people.

He trusted us to lead. Empowered us to discover greatness we hadn't yet recognized in ourselves. And never forgot that behind every uniform was a person and a family.

He didn't just talk about people-first leadership.

WE LIVED IT!

And somewhere along the way, his example became part of my own leadership standard.

Today, his rank is higher. His role has shifted. Our assignments have changed. But the respect and genuine connection hasn't.

He stopped to ask about my life, thanked me for my service and honored me with a coin.

But the coin wasn't what made my day.

It was the smile. The hugs. The reunion.

The reminder that leadership leaves something behind long after the assignment ends.

The greatest leadership legacy isn't just what people accomplish under your leadership. It's what they carry forward because of it.

Thank you, AUSA, for creating the space for a reunion I didn't know I needed.

And thank you, The Honorable Mike Obadal, for being the kind of leader whose impact doesn't end when the assignment does.

Most employers now say they hire for skills, not just credentials.

But Harvard Business School and the Burning Glass Institute found that nearly half of the companies that dropped degree requirements did it in name only, and the promised opportunity showed up in fewer than 1 in 700 hires.

Meanwhile, Indeed's May 2026 data shows 49% of applications from people with 10+ years of experience went to entry-level roles. Experienced people are applying down just to get in the door.

The policy is moving faster than the hiring habits behind it, so don't wait for the headline to catch up with your resume.

Make your case so clear the person reading it can't default to the familiar. Proof beats a press release.

You read this far, so hi. My name is Alecia, a 20-year Army veteran and coach with Partner In Excellence - Focal Point Coaching. I help people find their next best move when a role or title stops defining them. I would love to hear where you are in your story.

MENTOR MONDAY 💙

Military spouses serve too.

Their service may not come with a rank, a uniform or an official duty assignment.

But it comes with sacrifice.

Adaptability.

Leadership.

And sometimes, career aspirations placed on hold while supporting someone else's mission.

This weekend reminded me of something important:

Those who spend so much time supporting others deserve support of their own.

That's why mentorship matters.

Not because military spouses lack potential.

But because their potential deserves to be seen, developed and supported.

Through American Corporate Partners (ACP), eligible military spouses can connect with professional mentors who help them navigate career goals, build networks and prepare for what's next.

Their service matters. Their future does too.

The founders rate ends tomorrow, and I want to be straight about what that actually means.

It does not mean the program gets worse on Sunday. Same six weeks, same room, same hour on Thursdays.

It means these five seats are the ones building it with me, and part of what they are paying is honest feedback at week six instead of full price.

That trade only works once. After this group I will have what I need, and the next cohort runs at $997.

So there is no manufactured urgency here. Just a door that was open for a specific reason, and the reason expires.

2 seats left.

DM me ANCHOR before tomorrow night.

Picture the offer call where the hiring manager says, Your background gives us something the other candidates didn't.

That call isn't luck, it's what happens when you stop hiding the experience you already have.

The role you want isn't waiting on more credentials.
It's waiting on a clearer story.

Start with one sentence that connects something you've done to something they need.

Not more experience.
Better translation.

Here's the catch-22 nobody explains: you need the job to get the experience, and the experience to get the job.

Most people respond by chasing more credentials.

But your years of leading teams, running budgets and handling crises count, even if the title never said "manager".

Translate it into their language, build one small piece of proof and ask someone already inside for a conversation.

Stop waiting to be picked and take your next best move. What from your background translates better than you've been giving it credit for?

I had this conversation this week, and I bet you've had it too.

Qualified, sharp, ready to lead and stuck because every posting wants experience you can only get by already having the job.

The rejections weren't the worst part. The worst part was watching someone start to doubt what they already know how to do.

So I said what I'll say to you: this loop is real, and it is not a verdict on your worth.

You're not behind. You're untranslated.
