These past days have been a powerful reminder of both the progress we’ve made and the challenges still ahead. Like many of you, I’ve felt a range of emotions—from hope and pride to anxiety and frustration. The recent election has exposed deep divides, but it has also sparked a renewed push for justice, especially within Black communities. This moment is historic, charged with the weight of past generations’ sacrifices and a reminder of the enduring work we must continue. In these challenging times, our community has shown resilience and solidarity, underscoring our shared commitment to equity and change.

At District Partnerships, we are here to hold space for each other, to amplify the voices often left unheard, and to build pathways toward a more inclusive future. This month, we are excited to highlight many individuals who are working to ensure equity of access and opportunity for the LGBTQIA+ Community as "Showing Up & Showing Out for Equity- LGBTQIA+ Trailblazers" We are pleased to spotlight Jeanie Adkins who is .

Jeanie Adkins, Principal of Blue Mind Consulting LLC, has dedicated her career to mission-driven organizations, building partnerships and creating growth strategies to implement programs, services, and resources for social impact. She has worked with nonprofits, associations, businesses, and government agencies in support of the LGBTQ+ community, youth development and education, financial education, mental health, and closing the gap among racial, social, and health inequities. Jeanie’s versatility blends the big picture with actionable ideas and strategies through expertise in partnership development, research, outreach and engagement, and DEIB+ program management.

A highlight of Jeanie’s LGBTQ+ work is through her consulting with Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Working with the AACPS Office of Equity and Accelerated Student Achievement (OEASA) and Student Services, she advises on LGBTQ+ initiatives across the district, including the districtwide GSA planning team, professional development programming, and workgroups that include teachers, administrators, central office leadership, school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists.

Kelley Robinson is the ninth president of the Human Rights Campaign — the first Black, Q***r woman to lead the organization. The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality and liberation for le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, and q***r people. Robinson — widely respected for her work over the last 15 years creating and leading winning campaigns and programs. Kelley stepped into her new role at HRC after serving as Executive Director of The Planned Parenthood Federation of America. From community organizer to progressive leader, Robinson has been at the forefront of the fight for bodily autonomy and racial and gender equity, with a focus on lifting up marginalized communities and building political power. Robinson will lead HRC — and its more than 3 million member advocates — as the organization fulfills its mission to realize a world that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

This month has been full of programs, parades, and celebrations, but let's not forget in all of our celebrations that the LGBTQIA community still needs safe spaces, whether at work or in the community. Creating a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community at work is essential. It fosters a culture of inclusion and acceptance, allowing individuals to be their authentic selves without fear of discrimination or prejudice.

By providing a supportive environment, organizations promote employee well-being, enhance productivity, attract top talent, and uphold their ethical and legal responsibilities. It is a crucial step towards building a diverse and equitable workplace where everyone can thrive and contribute their best.
