As I travel to Denver to attend , I’m reminded of a childhood story.
I was in 3rd grade when my mom decided to re-enter the workforce as a Project Manager which required her to commute from Jacksonville, FL, to Orlando, FL, every weekday.
I recall "the pitch" she made to my dad on how she would ensure the kids were dropped off/picked up from school, made sure we had a warm dinner, and homework was completed.
At my mom's expense, she coordinated a driver to pick up/drop off to/from school, prepped meals, and reviewed homework on the weekends.
Everything worked seamlessly until my brother made a complaint to my dad. My dad immediately told my mom to quit her job.
I remember the feeling of sadness and disappointment in the house. Then, a few weeks later, the familiar spirit of dedication and love reappeared as my mom resumed her stay-at-home mom responsibilities, pouring herself even more into her kids.
I honor mom, “E”, for her sacrifice and love for family. She resiliently balanced family and work for as long as she could.
As I travel and leave family behind this week, I’m so thankful for the female role models who showed me motherhood and marketplace leadership can be achieved.
