Reflection….

This 🍁Thanksgiving, I am reminded of a powerful moment with my 🏘️ father.

Years ago, we visited his childhood home at a government housing project 🏘️ in Winston-Salem, NC.

Standing taller and wider than the front door, with tears streaming down his face, he said, “My God has brought me from a mighty, mighty long way 🛣️.”

I didn’t fully 🤔understand his words then, but I do now.

My God ✝️ is so, so good, and He has brought me from a mighty long way.

I wake up every day with great expectation, eager to see what’s 👉🏽around the corner.

His Goodness and Mercy continue to guide my steps👣, and I am profoundly grateful 🙌🏽.

Wishing 😘everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

There’s truly so much to be grateful for.🙏🏽

As I travel to Denver to attend , I’m reminded of a childhood story.

I was in 3rd grade when my mom decided to re-enter the workforce as a Project Manager which required her to commute from Jacksonville, FL, to Orlando, FL, every weekday.

I recall "the pitch" she made to my dad on how she would ensure the kids were dropped off/picked up from school, made sure we had a warm dinner, and homework was completed.

At my mom's expense, she coordinated a driver to pick up/drop off to/from school, prepped meals, and reviewed homework on the weekends.

Everything worked seamlessly until my brother made a complaint to my dad. My dad immediately told my mom to quit her job.

I remember the feeling of sadness and disappointment in the house. Then, a few weeks later, the familiar spirit of dedication and love reappeared as my mom resumed her stay-at-home mom responsibilities, pouring herself even more into her kids.

I honor mom, “E”, for her sacrifice and love for family. She resiliently balanced family and work for as long as she could.

As I travel and leave family behind this week, I’m so thankful for the female role models who showed me motherhood and marketplace leadership can be achieved.

When I started my career in manufacturing, there weren't many women👷🏽‍♀️to look up to.

I remember waiting outside my plant manager's office for a meeting and flipping through a Beverage Industry magazine.

I saw a striking black woman in a sharp blue suit and feminine blouse, confidently sitting with her legs crossed on a keg of beer with a bright smile and high heels 👠 .

This left a huge impression on me as a young woman just out of college, working midnight shifts in my steel toe boots. 🥾

Immediately, I knew there was a place for me in this industry.

My succession plan slated me as a plant manager. However, the company's timing didn't align with my timing. So, I shifted my career to HR.

Last fall, I met at an all-female entrepreneurial event.

Sheila achieved roles I aspired 💫in manufacturing; Employee Relations Manager, Operations Manager, Plant Manager, and Director of Supply Chain.

Sheila accomplished this at a time when women, (especially black women) weren't given the support and respect they deserved in this male dominated industry.🏭

Sheila is a role model to me and many others, showing us what women👩🏽‍💼can achieve and how they are making a powerful impact in the manufacturing industry.

I'm thrilled to have finally met “the lady on the keg”. 🥰 Have you met your “lady on the keg”?

During our college summers, my sister and I juggled classes and worked at Anheuser Busch Jax Brewery.

Our weekdays were spent operating the can, bottle, and keg lines.

Saturdays were dedicated to dismantling and sanitizing equipment, and shoveling cullet for recycling.

It was tough, but it taught us resilience, strength, and valuable skills that shaped our post-college careers.

I’m deeply thankful for unwavering support during those summers and the unforgettable Sundays 🙂.

Here’s to celebrating all the women who lift each other up throughout our professional journeys.

Together, we thrive and grow stronger!

I began my career as a 3rd shift Operations Supervisor at a beverage manufacturing plant.

I was the only female overseeing a team of 15 males, in the middle of the night.

I was heckled, cursed at, and tested my first 6 months on the job.

But 7th month....that was my time of breakthrough. I gained the confidence, knowledge, and audacity to lead boldly, courageously, and profitably.

My team's mid year results included:
•0 recordable safety incidents
•20% reduction in Customer Complaints
•95% overall equipment effectiveness
•100% fulfillment rate
•95% Engagement Rate (because I had to suspend one employee 🙂)

At that moment, I learned...Any woman, can do anything, in any workplace with a compelling desire and the right support.

Let's break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and empower women to lead, innovate, and boss up!

Standing in the shadows of greatness at the MLK memorial is my son. It brought me joy to see this old photo pop up on my timeline today.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. pioneered the way, laying the foundation for a future where each of us can make a difference.

As I look at my son, I'm reminded of the responsibility we all share to carry forward the torch of justice and equality.

Let's honor Dr. King's legacy by nurturing a future where the dreams of every child can thrive and flourish.
