Beyond the Box Relocation & Design

Beyond the Box provides full-service Relocation and Design management for residential clients and corporate executives. Executive Relocation: Whether you're moving across town or across the country, our goal is to relieve your relocation stress, leaving you free to focus on the things that really matter: your family and your job. Before the move, we'll help you decide which possessions will transi

tion with you. On moving day, we supervise the off load of your belongings, unpack the cartons, and completely set up your home. At the end of the day, you'll walk into a house that looks and feels like home. Senior Move Management: We understand the very difficult process of transitioning an older family member to a new living arrangement. To ease your burden, our managers and geriatric care specialists will help you select the ideal residence and, where necessary, the appropriate level of care. We'll assist in deciding what possessions will make the move, and arrange the new home down to the smallest details. Not only do we facilitate the appraisal, consignment, sale and donation of unwanted items, our professional designers also offer the invaluable service of integrating heirlooms and treasures into other family members' homes where the decor is often a very different style.

Moving can be stressful! Senior Move Managers are helping families take the hassle out of moving or downsizing!

"Senior move managers specialize in the issues that comes with downsizing, including donating and selling items and hiring movers. In New York, these managers maneuver through the often stringent moving and trash-disposal rules adopted by co-ops and condominium buildings. They also deal with out-of-town family members who may want items sent to them. They pack and unpack; they call the cable company. Most also help with decluttering and organizing the homes of seniors who wish to stay put."

Some move managers specialize in helping seniors downsize, divest, donate or simply declutter for safety’s — and sanity’s — sake.

We love everything that Katherine Salant is suggesting in this article—Small changes to your home now, will save you the hassle later.

Here are our 3 takeaways:
1) Create a “zero-step” entry at the front or back door
2) Plan for stacked closets (Pantry in Kitchen, Walk-In in Master) to be turned into an elevator shaft in the future
3) Raise the dishwasher 10 inches for easier accessibility to those in wheelchairs and those who can’t bend down

Timed perfectly, if not accidentally, with this week's famed Home Run Derby and All Star Game came one of the greatest "Sports in the Attic" discoveries of all time. Just for a moment, think of how cool it would be to discover $3 million worth of baseball cards that your grandfather bought more than 100 years ago. It might sound crazy, but that is exactly what happened to Karl Kissner of Defiance, Ohio when he finally built up the courage to venture into the attic and dig through years and years worth of family possessions.

You probably won’t hit a Grand Slam like Mr. Kissner did, but this story should be just the incentive you need to tackle the attic or basement you've been dreading. Even a small effort may turn up items that are valuable as well as sentimental. And if you just can't bring yourself to step up to the plate, one of the professional organizers at Beyond the Box will go to bat with you, sorting and organizing and formulating a plan for each of the unearthed items. Team work at it's finest.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Family members cleaning out their grandfather’s attic in Ohio have stumbled across a find that could be worth millions: century-old baseball cards of such Hall of Famers as Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner and Cy Young.

We love the design idea proposed by Rockville designer Kristen Kaplan in House Calls earlier this month of turning an unused basement into a home gym. We just have one thought about it: Nobody we know has an "unused" or empty basement. Unless you're moving into a new house like the couple in the article, there's a gigantic first step you have to take: getting all the boxes of books, old term papers, bags of clothing you hope to someday wear again and excess crap you've inherited over the years out of there. This step usually is more than enough to make you say, "Never mind!"

That's where we come in. Beyond the Box's professional organizers are experts that can help you sort and organize the stuff you really need (notice we didn't say " stuff you really want") and then discard, donate or consign the rest. Think of us as the personal trainers of your organization workout. Who knows? You might even make enough cash from the consignment sales to finance your new set of dumbbells.

Finally while we're at it, we'll also put our design cap on and throw out a couple of suggestions to enhance Kristen's plan:

First, put mats under the benches or install cork over part of the floor so dropped weights don't ding the shiny new surface. Cork also acts as an acoustic buffer and provides a supportive, softer surface that's kinder to your joints.

Second, rather than just using wall shelving, install cabinets with hidden storage like these from CB2. They hold all the small stuff you need but don't want to look at all the time like work out towels, water bottles, protein bars and disinfectant for cleaning the machines after your workout.
