Who should be able to invest in startups in the US?
I'm a sports fan βš½οΈπŸˆπŸ€ I could spend thousands of dollars on tickets to the big game, jerseys, food, hotel, and more during the big game weekend.
Nothing stops me from spending that money.
If I wanted to invest in that sports team or any of the vendors servicing the event, I can't if I'm not an accredited investor.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has a new proposal to allow Americans to take a test to qualify as an accredited investor.
Who do you think should be able to invest in small businesses?

Who should be able to invest in small businesses in America?

Visit www.whoshouldinvest.com and let me know what you think.

Most Americans can't legally invest in small businesses, from your local coffee shop β˜•οΈ to the exciting companies I've worked with on business TV shows πŸ“ΊπŸš€

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission decides who can invest and who can't. If you aren't an investment professional, qualification comes down to your income and net worth πŸ€‘

Currently, to qualify you need to make $200K as a single person, $300K as a married couple, or have a net worth over $1M, not including your primary residence.

This doesn't gauge your understanding of risk or how investments work.

The SEC has a new proposal to allow Americans to take a test to qualify to invest in small businesses, startups, and other assets not listed on a public exchange.

Share your feedback on the proposal at www.whoshouldinvest.com, the SEC site, or by dropping a comment below.

All investments carry risk of loss, but this proposal may open the door to investing to many more Americans.

So, who do you think should be able to invest?

Great convo with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Crypto Task Force at the Black Blockchain Summit at Howard University

We talked about the work of the Task Force, the SEC's interpretation of token vs security, the recent Innovation Exemption and how the SEC balances innovation with consumer protection, and how communities can engage with the SEC.

Congress still hasn't passed the CLARITY Act. Consumer and industry voices have a real impact on regulatory updates from agencies like the SEC - tap in.

I spent a decade as a casting consultant for Shark Tank 🦈 πŸ“Ί

I met thousands of entrepreneurs πŸš€ evaluated business models πŸ“Š and helped them prepare for their big moment 🀩

Thousands of pitches. Thousands of stories.

I spoke to a group of execs about storytelling recently. Of course I broke down the elements of a pitch, but here's what I shared about sharing their story....

Passion - The audience should know that you're not only uniquely qualified, but undeniably passionate. Passion can come out in tone of voice, gestures, etc...but that's not everyone's personality. Sharing your personal connection to the work can show passion as well.

Connection - How are you connected to the story you are sharing, and - importantly - how is your audience connected? Establish the audience connection early.

Data - The Sharks always say "know your numbers" but it's not as simple as rattling off business metrics. Quantify the impact. The impact on you. The impact on your audience. And the impact on the community you engage with.

What would you add to this list?

Can metacognition prepare us for the AI future?

will.i.am said this at the AI for Good summit - "Education when its human only, human to human, no machine - we need to value that. And if its human and machine, we need to value that as well. But there is room for both."

AI is the latest massive technology revolution and big questions about when and how to use AI in education need to be answered.

AI is the latest revolution, not the first and it won't be the last. What strategies can prepare learners for both AI and the next technology shift?

Metacognition...thinking about how we think...learning how we learn may be as important for the future as mastering AI today.

Technology will continue moving forward. If students today know how they learn, they can both adopt AI skills and quickly adapt to the next technology shift.

AI powered learning platforms like Path AI Test Prep (www.yourpath.ai) tap into understanding and building around how students learn.

Metacognition won't answer the big AI questions, but maybe it equip us to compete today and tomorrow.

What do you think?

A while back I partnered with CulturalDC to host Art Tank in DC. Visual artists 🎨 pitched real estate developers πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ for the chance to create art installations in new development projects.

The event itself was great, but the best part was seeing the art projects come to life πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ¨πŸ’

One of the artists Hiroshi Jacobs struck a deal with developer Martin Ditto and my phone just reminded me that I attended the unveiling of project.

Hiroshi created a staircase at one of Ditto Reisdential's OSLO Coliving Apartments projects.

It was incredible to see Hiroshi's vision come to life. Martin Ditto was a great partner on the project. We were all smiles πŸ˜ƒ

How have you seen the art and business community come together?
