The future of the recycled materials industry is brighter than ever!

The ReMA New England Chapter recently celebrated the winners of the Connecticut state JASON Learning Contest, in partnership with Boys & Girls Village. These talented students also took a behind-the-scenes tour of ReMA member HW Green, connecting classroom learning to real-world opportunities.

By championing programs that inspire the next generation, we’re not only opening doors to rewarding careers—we’re empowering students to see the vital role recycling plays in our economy, environment, and everyday lives.

May is National Electrical Safety Month! Learn how to store and charge lithium-ion batteries safely. Only use manufacturer approved batteries and chargers. Stop charging once the device is fully charged. Keep devices away from items that can catch fire and never charge on surfaces that can catch fire. Never charge devices near doors or hallways that may block exits: https://www.esfi.org/how-to-store-and-charge-batteries/

One of the standout moments at was partnering with This One's for the Gals to welcome students from ThrivePoint Academy of Nevada!

By collaborating with This One’s For the Gals, we’re demonstrating industry opportunities, encouraging the next generation of recycling leaders to:

• 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗢𝗻: Dive into internships, tour operations, and discover the materials that power our industry. Understanding the “what” and “how” is the first step to building a meaningful career.
• 𝗕𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱: True growth happens outside your comfort zone. Embrace challenges, take risks, and let ambition drive you forward.
• 𝗕𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: From mastering heavy equipment with advanced simulators to engineering new sustainability solutions, our industry is a hub of technical innovation.

A huge thank you to everyone who shared their expertise and passion! Together, we’re proving that careers in the industry strengthen supply chains, empower communities, and shape a more sustainable future.

“Every Day is Earth Day isn’t just a mantra we use—it’s how we operate,” – Jordan Vexler.

ReMA Member Monterrey Metal Recycling Solutions (MMRS) celebrated Earth Day 2026 with an entire week of meaningful initiatives that uplifted employees, connected with local leaders, and inspired future recyclers.

Highlights included delivering “Recycling Superhero” kits to elected officials, hosting a vibrant celebration for employees and their families, and partnering with the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) to launch a Recycling Club Grant Program for elementary schools.

MMRS is proof that the recycled materials industry drives positive change—empowering communities, supporting education, and providing the essential raw materials for the infrastructure we rely on every day.

Did you know Paul Revere was an early recycler?

Environmental historian Carl Zimring shares that Revere likely used recycled copper to craft everything from rooftops for colonists’ homes to the horseshoes on his legendary ride. Recycling has been fueling American innovation since the very beginning!

Today, the U.S. industry is a powerhouse—driving $184 billion in annual economic activity, supporting good jobs, and building a more resilient, sustainable future. In fact, 70% of all U.S. produced steel is made from recycled steel, and over 75% of U.S. paper mills rely on recycled paper every day.

Discover how ReMA’s new Economic Impact Study highlights the essential role our industry plays in powering U.S. manufacturing and environmental progress.
