My kid is 10. Also 15. Also 6. And that's all before breakfast. 😅

Gifted and distractible kids often grow unevenly: a brain racing years ahead, and feelings that need a little more time to catch up. That's asynchronous development. It's not a parenting fail, and it's not your kid being "difficult."

When the 15-year-old brain argues like a lawyer and the 6-year-old heart melts down over the wrong cup, try meeting the age that's showing up in that moment.

Easy things are hard and hard things are easy. If that sounds like your bright kid, you're not imagining it. 💡

So many gifted and twice-exceptional kids can explain black holes but can't find their shoes, get started on homework, or remember the permission slip. That's executive functioning, and it's not a character flaw.

I'm joining my friends at Illuminos Academic Coaching & Tutoring and the wonderful Wendy Weinberger for their Less Stress Parenting series.
