Yesterday in Damascus, Chemonics opened its new office and marked 14 years of partnership with the Syrian people.

We brought together Syrian leaders, partners, and alumni to reflect on more than a decade of collaboration – and to look ahead to Syria's future and ongoing recovery. The day featured ministerial remarks and expert panels on recovery through economic growth, community priorities and national policy, and opportunities for future partnership.

“Today is a celebration of what Syrian people have achieved through some of the hardest years their country has known,” Jamey Butcher, Chemonics CEO and Chair, said. “The opening of our Damascus office reflects our continued commitment to Syrian-led recovery as Syria builds its future."

For 14 years, Chemonics has partnered with Syrian communities, local organizations, and institutions – supporting over one million children to continue learning through conflict, restoring essential services, and strengthening civil society and local governance. That work includes a decade of partnership with the White Helmets, whose volunteers saved over 127,000 lives.

Speaking at the event, His Excellency Raed Alsaleh, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management of the Syrian Arab Republic, said: “Chemonics believed in the capabilities of the Syrian people and their determination to confront and overcome challenges. This belief has had a tangible impact on the lives of millions of Syrians and has left a lasting mark on the landscape of humanitarian and development work over the past years.

Today, this partnership renews itself to align with future aspirations. What began as collaboration under exceptional humanitarian circumstances is evolving into a broader partnership that supports early recovery, strengthens institutional capacities, drives sustainable development, and empowers communities to build a more stable and prosperous future.”

This EarthDay, we’re reflecting on the impact of our wildlife conservation work in Southern Africa – highlighted in some of our favorite photos.

Across the region, teams worked alongside park rangers, scientists, and communities to combat poaching and protect biodiversity through locally led solutions. More than 1,100 wildlife champions – from field rangers to conservationists to prosecutors – strengthened their ability to safeguard Africa’s iconic wildlife. Along the way, new tools, including a real-time vulture tracking app, helped park teams respond to poisoning incidents in real-time.

These images are a reminder of what sustained partnership can achieve – and of the lasting contributions that can be made toward protecting Southern Africa’s extraordinary wildlife.

As we prepare to celebrate this year's , it's more important than ever to recognize forests for what they truly are: sources of livelihoods, resilience, and long-term economic opportunity.

Along the Pacific coast of , Afro-Colombian communities are working to conserve and protect one of the world’s most carbon‑rich ecosystems – all while selling carbon credits to offset the impacts of forest degradation and deforestation. Their stewardship shows how locally led conservation strengthens both economic and environmental outcomes.

🎥 Watch how carbon markets and conservation can come together to deliver sustainable outcomes for communities on Colombia’s coast.

As global leaders prepare to discuss some of the biggest challenges of the moment at the 80th U.N. General Assembly ( ), a critical focus of our attention is the urgent future of global health security. From protecting and preparing health workers to resilient models for health financing that empower countries to lead, plan, and invest in their own systems, global health security is a pressing challenge that the world needs to address before the next crisis.

We've already worked with many countries to better prepare them for health emergencies; however, there remains a need for increased training and investment. Learn more about our Global Health Emergency Framework: https://ow.ly/PXKF50X0wg4

Technology is most powerful when it’s shaped by the people who use it. 🌱

In our recent CNBC SDG Leaders feature, we highlight how local leaders are driving the adaptation of technology to meet urgent challenges — from protecting biodiversity in Colombia to managing climate finance in Asia. At Chemonics, we don’t just deliver tools — we work alongside communities to co-create solutions that are sustainable, scalable, and rooted in local context.

💬 As Chemonics and Chair CEO Jamey Butcher shared: “Ultimately, it’s those partners that drive the adaptation of the technology, or the best practices, or the ways in which the tools are developed. Addressing those challenges that live at a global scale has to be done community by community.”

For nearly 50 years, Chemonics has championed locally led innovation to drive lasting change. See how that mission comes to life in Harnessing Tech for Sustainable Development: https://ow.ly/H85U50WAFxC

🌍 From Asia to the Amazon, technology is helping communities tackle climate change, protect biodiversity, and access the tools they need to thrive.

In our new CNBC SDG Leaders feature, Harnessing Tech for Sustainable Development, we highlight how Chemonics adapts tools like SMART software to support conservation and climate action in Colombia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and beyond.

Whether it's improving access to climate finance in Indonesia or using open data to safeguard ecosystems, our work starts where it matters most: with the people closest to the challenge.
