Preparedness is not about becoming a hardened survivalist and it is not about getting ready for the next Civil, Race, Economic or Religious War. Preparedness is about acknowledging potential situations that you may be concerned with, addressing, in advance, ways to respond to them should they do occur, examining ways to avoid them all together or, if you cannot avoid them, identifying ways to mitigate their impact to help you to recover quickly and to reduce the long-term effects of the occurrence.
This could be any hazard; from something as frequently occurring as a thunderstorm to an extremely rare volcanic explosion or east coast earthquake.
Being a Prepper is simply about thinking ahead of a hazard or disaster and discussing "what to do if" then taking some minimal amount of action to get ready, just in case.Being a prepper is about being self responsible. Preppers are not victims!

Have you developed your Family Emergency Plan? If not, join Wayne Vick on November 4 and 11 from 10:00 am to noon at the Martha Washington Library, 6614 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA as he leads a Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Family (2 part) workshop.
Bring your significant other to discuss important decisions that need to be made when developing a plan. At the end of the two part workshops you will be ready to put your plan into action to get the materials you need to survive.
This workshop is hosted by the Mobile Preppers Community of VA.

Let's say you are preparing for a full collapse of the modern infrastructure, There are three kinds of food to consider, emergency, long-term, and self-produced. How much long-term food should you store for your family and what should you consider when calculating this?

04/13/2017

On average, how often does the food in your local grocer turn over? What are it's implications to your ability to feed your family should something impact the transportation chain or communications grid??

Sorry I've been away for so long. I've been working hard on my next book for my other job and it has been consuming me.
I will be putting together a "Family Emergency Planning Workshop" for a small group of people here in my home in Springfield, VA within the next few weeks. The price will be the cost of my discounted book. The workshop will take place over two evenings (7 - 9:30 pm) either on Tuesday and Thursday or Thursday and Tuesday with the period between to be used to discuss scenarios for threats and research ways to prepare for them.

If you don't have a plan mapped out for various emergencies this is an outstanding opportunity for a focused and guided effort for individuals or couple. Seats will be limited to 12.

If you are interested please respond via email to wvick [at] verizon.net and I will coordinate timing for the majority of the small group interested in attending.

Have you been watching what is going on in Venezuela? People cannot afford to feed their families. So they are rioting. Is this what is in store for us here in the US? Wages have been stagnant since 2008 yet food prices have increased by nearly 30% in that time. Are you ready for this? What is your plan?
