From a crisis management standpoint, the Ferguson police made several mistakes, but did some good things, too. Showing the tape of the robbery at this time was a terrible move. Having the three Black police officers standing at every press conference is not a smart move. People can see right through that. But having Captain Johnson speak frequently and with authority is very important.

Lobbyists have a reputation for only helping corporations and the rich. We fight for the weak, the vulnerable and people who have no other voice in government.

Our brand is growing! After much thought and deliberation, we decided that the Professional Lobbying and Advocacy Center will focus on serving social justice causes and clients. Additionally, our strategic communication division, Influence Media, will focus of helping social justice causes and clients deliver their message in a creative and influential way. Finally, we started the Public Interest PAC (PIPAC), a Super PAC developed to make sure social justice issues are in the forefront in 2014 and 2016.

People often confuse 'lobbying' with 'advocacy'. Lobbying involves influencing government officials to act or vote a certain way. Advocacy involves educating and informing government officials about an issue. Both lobbying and advocacy are important and necessary for a successful government affairs campaign.

If you want to succeed on Capitol Hill, you can not lobby all Congressmen the same way. Democrats react to emotional issues, Republicans react to fiscal and small government issues.

The C. L. A. Group Announces Plan to Change Name to
Professional Lobbying and Advocacy Center

New Brand Reflects the Company's Commitment to Helping Associations and Non-Profit Organizations Reach Their Federal Legislative and Regulatory Goals.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The C. L. A. Group announced that it has changed its name to Professional Lobbying and Advocacy Center (www.prolobbyingcenter.com) effective immediately. The name change reflects the firm's accelerated commitment to train, represent, and assist associations and non-profit organizations in their efforts to educate and influence the federal government.

“Many associations and non-profit organizations face an uphill battle when trying to have their voice heard by Congress and the federal government,” said Laurence Socci, Director. “They often do not have the financial resources, the manpower or the knowledge to effectively lobby Congress and federal agencies. After representing associations and non-profit organizations for over 15 years as part of The C. L. A. Group, we found that these groups needed a little more. They needed not only great representation on Capitol Hill, but also training and monitoring services.”

The Professional Lobbying and Advocacy Center is the only lobbying firm in the United States to offer lobbying training, Congressional and federal agency representation and monitoring services on a subscription basis.

“Our new business model makes it easy for associations and non-profit organizations to have a voice in Washington,” Socci noted. “Our services are subscription based. Associations and non-profit organizations pay a yearly subscription for any service they choose, and we take care of the rest. No contracts, no invoices, no hassles.

The name change takes effect as of December 1, 2013. Visit www.prolobbyingcenter.com for more information.

According to the IRS, a charity or non-profit can lobby if (1) there is no substantial part of their organization that is devoted to lobbying, or (2) they file a Form 5768 (one page form, filed one time) that will allow to spend a percentage of money of direct lobbying and a smaller percentage on grassroots lobbying.
