Today is March 20th and I’m very excited. Nowruz (meaning New Day) is an ancient Persian celebration of Spring. I love all the cultural holidays and their significances, but Nowruz has a special place in my heart. For me, Nowruz is a reminder of my rebirth in self-love and self worth. A reminder that no matter how tough of a challenge life throws at me, I'll survive for the better.
Nowruz is a reminder of how much I love me.
This time of year, I get to value my choices, to believe in myself and my wisdom and to know that “what hasn’t killed me made me stronger”.
But the best part of it, is that all the happiness, friendships, purpose, love and laughter I've created in my life, are only possible because of how much I choose me and love me:
Loving me enough to have learned how to say no to others so I can say yes to me.
Loving me enough to take responsibility of all my decisions and be the leader in my life.
Loving me enough to get out of toxic friendships/relationships and open space for great, loving friends that love me for who I am.
Loving me enough to show up confidently.
Loving me enough to raise my son to become a confident and independent man.
Loving me enough to ask for what I need and value my own opinion.
Loving me enough not to blame myself for occasional parenting fails or temper tantrums.
Loving me enough to know what I'm worth and that I’m worth it.
Loving me enough to know how important of a message this is to share.
So regardless of where you are in your life, whether life is throwing curveballs at you, or you are in the middle of a relationship storm, dealing with a gloomy day syndrome, or you are enjoying the fruits of your hard work, if I could give you one present for Norouz, it would be this:
Love yourself more. It's the best gift you can give yourself.
New Day, New You!
With Love,
Saleheh
