I’m taking a pause on posting on social media. Let’s talk about why and how it being Women's History Month seemed like good timing.

This month has me thinking about all the amazing things that have happened because of awesome sauce women who put everything they had into creating change … into making a positive impact in their corner of the world.

(and sprinkling in kindness wherever they are)

I can’t imagine it’s ever easy or without sacrifice at times.

It’s also made me think about practicing what you preach and believe in.

I really believe in taking breaks, especially when the not-so-good and wonky things begin to outweigh the good stuff.

As I’m sure many of us have experienced firsthand, social media can be quite a drain on resources. Whether it’s time, money, or sanity (or all three!), at some point it becomes time to step away.

That’s where I am. A break is required. So, I’m taking one!

But, I don’t want to lose touch. I want to continue sharing productivity hacks and routines, tech tips, app suggestions, inspirational stories, and mindset habits to help you become the best version of you.

These two newsletters will keep you looking forward to being informed, having some fun, and taking action on all the new things you’ve discovered. Life will get a little more productive.

💙 Weekly-ish (because life happens, right?), I’ll pop up in your inbox sharing blog post highlights, productivity and tech tips, and everything that’s happening behind the scenes at D. Allison Lee. Always helpful, never spammy. 💯

💙The Friday 5, which is published every four to six weeks. Inside, you’ll discover interesting things I've found on my Internet travels that can boost your productivity, give you fresh ideas for your small business, or present you with a different perspective.

Staying in touch with me is easy: just click on the link in my bio, enter your information, and opt in. It could not be easier.

(OR send me a DM and I’ll add you)

I’m looking forward to this break, and I hope you're looking forward to learning new things … and staying connected with each other. 😊

P.S. Happy Women’s History Month! And big thanks to all women doing great things. Big or small, they count. ❤️

✅ To-do list tackled

📈 Increased focus

😁 That feeling of giving yourself the gift of time

That’s what you’ll walk away with after an Action Day, a free co-working session hosted by yours truly!

Look, as entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, we know how difficult it is to make time to work on THE STUFF. Things like administrative tasks (like creating your holiday promotions), marketing tasks (like writing the first email of your funnel), and anything else that is always taking a back seat to everything else you’re working on.

By joining us on Wednesdays, you’ll be free of distractions and procrastination and have the dedicated, productive time that you deserve. All you have to do is bring something to work on. I’ll provide the accountability and momentum.

This is a guided session, so you won’t be left failing. We use the Pomodoro Technique, and I’ll be there to help you through the process.

If you’re ready (and I’m so ready to welcome you!), drop a 🚀in the comments for your invitation or send me a DM to have it sent right to you.

Here’s to us getting it all D.one during the next Action Day!

(curious what D.one is? – ask me in the comments 😊)

I really want to know what you think.

Do you think mindset is more important than talent?

Think on that for a second.

When a truly incredible human exists (think of a humanitarian or professional athlete), could they have achieved their success without having a powerful mindset?

And for us mere mortals, 😉 can we run a successful business solely on talent and knowledge?

If you’ve been following me for even just a bit, you may have gotten the idea that I believe in the extreme importance of mindset when it comes to being an entrepreneur. A well-trained mindset will help you tackle any number of challenges we encounter daily.

Talent alone is going to have a hard time getting you through a “no” from a potential client, a tech breakdown, or an important decision.

But your mindset will be the navigation of this crazy journey, helping you when you encounter roadblocks, gridlock, or fierce climbs.

Talent gets you there, but mindset gets you through and onto the next success. 💯

So, what do you think? Hit reply and tell me if you think mindset is more important than talent. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

When was the last time you tracked how much you were spending on your business each month?

Yeah, I couldn’t remember either.

A few weeks ago, I got a notice that the monthly rate for a program I use was going up by a considerable amount. It was just the nudge I needed to audit where my nickels and dimes were going.

So, I dedicated a couple of hours to making sure it was money well spent. And I’m glad I did because I ended up discovering some things that could be canceled. We love to save ourselves some dollars, don’t we? 💯

Here are some ideas for tracking your money:

💰 Set aside enough time so you aren’t rushing. That also means staying hydrated and making sure snacks are available, of course.

💰 Pull all your credit/debit card statements and/or ask your accounting software to create a report (a spreadsheet can work well too).

💰If any expense garners an immediate “Why am I paying for this?!?!?” response, take a deep breath, make sure you really don’t need it, then give it the chop.

💰 Be honest with yourself about how and why you’re using each subscription or program. Do you have several tools that do the same thing?

💰For anything you use all the time and can’t work without, see if switching to an annual fee will save you money.

(Not to use a bad word, but tax prep time is also the perfect time to do this exercise!)

And here’s a bonus tip: don’t forget that for every new program or app you’re paying for, you’re also spending time and effort learning. Your time costs too!

Sound on. 🔉 Let’s talk about your worth. This one is important.

Let me say it loud and clear: Your worth is not tied to the numbers on social media.

Not your followers. Not your likes. Not your views. Not your comments.

And definitely not whether the algorithm decided to be in a good mood this week.

(Because we all know the fickleness of the algorithm.)

It’s wild how quickly we can go from confident… to despair… just because a post didn’t perform the way we hoped.

(I know this feeling very well.)

But numbers measure reach.

💙 They don’t measure impact.

💙 They don’t measure the quiet person who read your post and felt less alone.

💙 They don’t measure the person who saved it and came back three times.

💙 They don’t measure the DM you’ll get two months from now that says, “That thing you shared? It helped me.”

You are not an engagement rate. You are not a dashboard. You are not a metric.

You are a human doing meaningful work.

Create because you care. Show up because it matters to you. Let the numbers be data, not a verdict.

And if you needed permission to stop refreshing your stats today… this is it. Save this post for when you need this gentle reminder. Keep going. You’ve got this.

Every day you wake up, get out of bed, and do it all over again.

Even when you’re just not feeling it. Even when it’s hard. Even when you feel like tapping out.

You persist.

You put your energy into doing something you love, sharing your gift (and talent) with someone who needs it.

This journey isn’t always easy, and it’s full of roadblocks, mechanical issues, and gigantic mountains you have to get over.

You keep going, keep doing, and keep making progress.

With all the energy you have to give. Because it’s worth it.

Well done. 👏👏👏

Tell me: What’s one thing that’s getting your persistence, determination, and energy this week? I’d love to hear about it.

Hot Take: Starting a new habit IS self-care. Let’s discuss!

When you live and breathe your small business, self-care is essential to your success. In fact, I’d even call it a non-negotiable. 💯

So you shouldn’t be surprised that creating easy-to-follow habits is definitely a form of self-care. When you lean into starting a new, helpful habit, you’ll give your brain a set of steps to rely on. Bonus: You’ll also experience a boost of satisfaction and accomplishment. Couldn’t we all use those feelings filtering into other areas of our lives?

(spoiler: yes!)

And listen, a new habit doesn’t have to be centered around your work. Your new routine can help you make time for yourself and explore ways to rest and rejuvenate.

I’m talking things like:

💦 Drinking more water

✍🏽 Planning day and tracking your minutes

🍳 Trying new recipes

🚶🏾‍♀️ Walking after lunch

💰 Starting a savings plan

Most importantly, this is supposed to be fun/interesting/challenging, not torture. Practice kindness with yourself.

While we all love an “overnight success!” story, we’re all human here. You only need to get better 1% at a time. That’s it. You just need small, incremental changes because those are the ones that last.

Anytime is a good time to start a new habit, so why not now? What’s a new one that you’d like to start? Hop into the comments and let me know. 👇🏽

If you’re searching for motivation to get work done, this invitation is for YOU.

Working by (and for) yourself is challenging in lots of ways, but it’s especially challenging when you're isolated and your own source of motivation. Let’s get real. Sometimes you just don’t wanna. 🤣

Action Day can help.

During this virtual co-working session, we use body doubling to show up and work together, which helps your brain get on board with focus and motivation.

I know. It’s weird and simple, but somehow, it works!

These short bursts of focus let you make progress with others quietly work around you. We get it done, together.

So, if you’re frustrated and looking for a different kind of motivation, grab your FREE Action Day invite using the link in my bio or by searching “Action Day” on my website.

When was the last time you were curious about something and took the time to learn more?

It could be anything:

🪄 A product you’re being social-media-influenced to buy.
(Listen, no judgement, we’ve all been there!)

🪄 A guest on a podcast who said something that sparked an interest for you.

🪄 An author who blurbed the current book you’re reading and loving.

🪄 A new-to-you CRM your biz bestie shared with you.

You get my point, it could literally be anything that sparks your curiosity!

When you're busy with the 1,000 different roles you play daily, it’s easy to lose interest in learning something new. Who has space in their brain for all that?

But remember when you were a little kid and discovered something for the first time? It was pure joy to learn everything you could about dinosaurs, the ocean, or noodles. 🤣

Let’s reignite that sense of discovery! You’ll never know what you’ll find.

It’s made me curious (pun absolutely intended!) about the thing you’ve deep dived on lately. Join me in the comments and let’s learn about what you’ve recently discovered!

Just like love, kindness really is all around us.

I know so many of us are feeling the heaviness of the world right now. In fact, it might feel like you are constantly doomscrolling, even when you aren’t on your phone.

Does that feel familiar?

If it does, this might help you. Whenever I’m really searching for a little light, I take a deep breath, look around me, and search for kindness.

It doesn’t matter what type of kindness. It could be anything from someone letting another car out into traffic to a person patiently waiting for their coffee from an overwhelmed barista to someone picking up trash while they take a walk.

Any kind action will do.

Kindness is a reminder that there is still good in the world, especially when it feels hard to find.

Here’s another tip: If you can’t see kindness, go ahead and create your own! Sometimes we have to be what we need from others.

If you’re having a hard time thinking of something you can do, just remember that making people feel like they matter is one of the kindest and most meaningful things you can do.

Things like:

♥️ Texting a friend before an important meeting or even to tell them they are amazing.

♥️ Listening to a fellow small business owner who needs to talk through a tough situation.

♥️ Telling a retail worker you really appreciated their help in tracking down an item.

(P.S. If you’re looking for a group of small business owners that is kindness driven, send me a DM and let’s talk about The Thrive-Hive.)

What’s one small act of kindness that you’ve done lately? Join me in the comments and let’s spread some love.

I know someone else you could share a little love with today. 💙Your favorite small business!

Sure, it’s not flowers and chocolate, but it might be something even better.

When you own a small business, you know how much of your heart you put into everything you do.

It all starts to add up: late nights, learning curves, scary risks, and the “oh gosh, I hope it works” moments.

So wouldn’t it make someone's day if you shouted out a moment of love for them? 💖

Tag them and tell people why you trust them, work with them, recommend them, and buy from them (these ones are so important!).

When you’re in the trenches of running a small business, hearing a short message of praise has a massive impact. 💯 Besides making them feel good and reminding them why they're doing what they're doing, the message can also help others discover what the business has to offer.

That’s a big deal.

Today is the perfect time to take 60 seconds to send a small business some love and appreciation. Drop a tag in the comments and let’s hear about your favorite small businesses!
