“Should I wake my baby to eat?”

For newborns in those early weeks, yes. 💛

I typically recommend feeding every 2.5–3 hours and waiting until baby is back to birth weight (ideally by around day 14) before letting them go longer stretches at night.

Those early, frequent feeds are not only important for baby’s weight gain, but also for establishing a healthy milk supply. ✨

Did you have to wake your newborn to eat, or were they your little alarm clock? ⬇️

When they’re this age, letting them sleep through a meal? Totally fine.

But in those early newborn days, feeding frequently really matters — both for baby’s growth AND for building and establishing your milk supply.

General guidance is to avoid going longer than 3 hours between feeds during the day, with slightly longer stretches overnight — but remember, we move milk to make milk. 🤱

Keep that baby eating regularly in those early weeks and your body will thank you later. 🤍

That’s me. Brand new mom. Full of love, but zero clue.

As an IBCLC, I now see things I couldn’t see back then — and I can’t let this throwback slide without breaking it down. 👇

1. Those lips need to fl**ge out 👄 We want wide, fl**ged “fish lips” for a deep latch — even on the bottle.

2. Paced feeding, anyone? 🍼 That bottle should be horizontal with baby upright and in control of the flow — not tipped back letting gravity take over. Paced bottle feeding protects breastfeeding and prevents overfeeding.

3. That little jaundice boy? His olive skin wasn’t because his Pop pop was 100% Italian. 😔 I had no idea what effect it would have on his feeding.

Jaundice makes babies sleepy, weak, and unable to feed effectively — and I didn’t know to ask for help.

Don’t be me. Reach out for help. 💛

From sore and frustrated to confident and pain-free! I love it when I can help a determined mama master the perfect latch. The relief on her face says it all.

Breastfeeding shouldn’t hurt- sometimes a small adjustment makes all the difference. If you’re struggling, don’t give up! Support and guidance can turn things around.

Shoot me a DM if you are hoping to breastfeed and need to line up some support.

Want a pain-free latch when breastfeeding your baby?

COMMENT “yes” below and I’ll DM a link to view this video in its entirety.

Sore, cracked and even bleeding ni***es (I know!) are the main reasons my phone constantly blows up.

If you only know one thing going into breastfeeding, this is it: BREASTFEEDING SHOULDN’T HURT!

Do you automatically have to assume you’ll bottle feed in the hospital if you have a C-section?

The answer is no.

Of course we’ll see how you feel after surgery, but I have countless clients who have exclusively breastfed after a C-section.

Education is power.

I just bumped into a pregnant mom today who thought a C-section meant breastfeeding probably wasn’t going to happen in the hospital, and that simply isn’t true.

IBCLCs… how often do you hear this from your clients?

Most moms are surprised to learn that you don’t need a huge freezer stash to go back to work or leave the house.

In fact, a small daily pump can add up quickly.

Because milk production is highest overnight, the easiest time to pump is after your morning feeding. Even 10–15 minutes can slowly build a stash without disrupting your baby’s feeds.

Consistency matters more than volume. A little bit every day adds up.

I’m curious — when do you like to pump?
