Main Street Iowa has been a wonderful client of PlaceEconomics over the years. We did their first Impact of Main Street study there 14 years ago. Katlyn is a Principal at PlaceEconomics, where she researches the economic and community impacts of historic preservation—from tax credit studies to housing analyses. Her work shows how historic neighborhoods can support housing growth and density while preserving what makes communities distinct. Katlyn earned her Master's degree in Historic Preservation from the UPenn and in her free time, she organizes for tenants' rights in Washington, D.C. In Lake Wales, Florida, there is a wonderful 20s hotel, the Walesbilt. It has been sitting empty for decades. The City acquired the structure and found a great developer to rehabilitate it. PlaceEconomics was given the task of estimating the impact on the local economy when the hotel is restored.
