There’s always a delicate dance of asserting ourselves and biting our tongues during meetings — especially with the challenges of the ever-evolving video era.

The subtle art of interrupting colleagues in virtual engagements can be tangled with layers of office politics, gender bias, distractions, and tech mishaps that test our resolve to speak up and communicate effectively.

So, how do we raise our voices without adding tension or conflict to a meeting?

Here are some of Allison's go-to strategies recently shared by Forbes and Forbes Africa.

We'd love to hear from you – how do you break into conversations and make your voice heard in a virtual setting?

Tired of being talked over or inadvertently shutting others down in Zoom meetings? Here are 5 strategies for effectively interrupting in virtual meetings from Allison Shapira as featured in Forbes.

Talking about the Art of Persuasion always ignites a spark. The principles are as old as (and even older than) Aristotle, yet just as relevant now as they were two thousand years ago.

We persuade an audience through a balance of three elements: ethos, logos, and pathos.

1. Ethos - our authority and credibility. It's not just about our titles, it’s also about our life experiences and relationships with others.

2. Logos - our logical arguments. Crafting a clear, concise argument - in the language of our target audience - ensures our message is digested, not dismissed.

3. Pathos - our appeal to human emotion. Our passion and emotions turn facts into stories, statistics into narratives.

The GPS framework of 5 questions to answer when seeking to persuade an audience helps improve your ability to tap into all three pillars.

When you prepare for your next pitch or presentation, examine your balance of ethos, logos, and pathos – and be prepared to make adjustments in the moment – to deliver messages that will resonate, inspire, and mobilize your audience.

What are some easy, daily practices you can implement to be a better communicator?

When you speak with purpose and focused intention, you'll witness the transformation in your relationships with others.

Here are three strategies you can implement any time you need to make an impact and Lead With Your Voice:

1. Pause and Breathe: Taking that moment to pause, breathe, and center yourself can work wonders. It helps you to speak with intention and clarity.

2. Empathetic Communication: Consider the impact of your words on the person listening. Tailoring your message to connect with them on a personal level is key.

3. Harness your Best Energy: Take responsibility for the energy you bring into the conversation. Your enthusiasm and positivity can be contagious, so let your voice show it.

Give these a try the next time you prepare to speak at a meeting or deliver a presentation, and you will become a more effective communicator.

Now, in the Zoom era, the rules of engagement are further shifting our communication landscape.

Interrupting colleagues, which can present challenges related to office politics and gender bias, has become even more complex without in-person cues and body language.

Distractions and technology malfunctions serve as more unexpected roadblocks on everyone’s journey toward effective communication.

How do we speak up without making virtual meetings unnecessarily longer or more awkward?

Forbes captured some of Allison's top strategies, along with helpful tips from Dr. Carey Yazeed and Sid Sijbrandij.

LGBTQ+ History Month (originally Le***an and Gay History Month) was founded by Rodney Wilson, a 29-year-old teacher of American history and American government, in 1994 to commemorate gay rights and related civil rights struggles.

October was selected for the observance to coincide with National Coming Out Day (October 11) and the anniversary of the first march on Washington for gay and le***an rights in 1979.

At Global Public Speaking, we reflect on the courage and impact of LGBTQ+ voices to champion change and impact American history.

Everyone's story carries power; you never know whose life you may touch by speaking your truth.
