Earlier this month, Colombia announced that its entire Amazon biome would be off-limits to new mining and oil projects.



The proposal was initially submitted for consultation with the region’s Indigenous peoples which began in late June.

After several weeks, the government adopted its final decision. The result? Almost 500,000 square kilometers of the Colombian Amazon – close to half of the country’s total territory – are now a renewable natural resources reserve.
