June results analysis is in. Overall testing in June was strong, with over 4,000 samples submitted and just over 60% of those being female. The female % was slightly higher than our YTD average but still in line with our expectations.

We take pride in knowing 1,600+ male plants were detected early, most tested between 2 and 6 weeks old, well before pre-flowers would reliably confirm their s*x by eye. That head start means less time, water, and nutrients spent on plants that were never going to make it to harvest, at least 30,000 gallons of water saved (conservative estimate, indoor and outdoor combined) along with real hours of labor. Not to mention the space savings and reduced risk of a missed male slipping into flower and pollinating your females.

Why isn’t it 50/50? 🤔

In March 2026, 57.3% of the samples we tested came back female.

We get asked about this from time to time, and the short answer is: most of what we test is regular seed stock, but feminized plants still make their way into the data. In larger grows, it is pretty common for multiple seed packs to get planted at once, with one of them being feminized, and the person submitting samples may not know which is which. So a few feminized plants get tested along with the regs, and that nudges the ratio upward.

We also see this with bag seeds. A lot of newer growers send those in, and bag seeds are usually the result of self-pollination, which means they are often female.

And cannabis is not unusual here. Other dioecious plant species do not always land at a perfect 50/50 split either. S*x ratios can shift based on biology, stress, and survivorship.

For reference, the last time we shared this data was about a year ago, and that month came in at 60.96% female. Month to month, the variation is usually there, but it is not dramatic.
