October 4-10 is Fire Prevention Week! Proclaimed by Mayor Gray, we honor the service and commitment of the Wendell Fire Department and recognize efforts to keep folks educated on fire safety.

This year's theme for Fire Prevention Week is "Charge Into Fire Safety," which focuses on safe operation of lithium-ion batteries, which power many of our daily devices. Here are some tips when using your devices:

Here are some safety tips this Fire Prevention Week:
🔥 Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
🔥 Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or bare floor.
🔥 Unplug your device when it is fully charged.
🔥 Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging.
🔥 Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds.
🔥 When on a plane, keep devices where you can see them while charging. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on the plane. Tell a flight attendant if you notice a problem with your device.

⚠️ Harvest Festival Update: Carolina Coastal Railway has advised the Town that towing will be enforced in all of their right-of-way property adjacent to the railroad through downtown.

Please see attached map for the areas in which the railroad is referring to. We advise the public not to park in these areas. Public parking is available in any open public lot as well as on any public street that is not marked with "no parking" signs.
