🏗️ Why Use a V***r Barrier Under Concrete?

Concrete may look solid, but moisture v***r can still move up through a slab from the soil below. Over time, that moisture can contribute to:

• Damp or musty spaces
• Flooring and adhesive failures
• Mold and mildew concerns
• Increased indoor humidity
• Damage to stored materials and finished surfaces

A properly installed under-slab v***r barrier helps separate the concrete from ground moisture and protects the building long after the concrete is poured.

Source Mountain Supply now has access to StegoHome 10 Mil V***r Barrier in 12' × 75' rolls. It’s a durable option for residential slabs, basements, garages, additions, and other under-concrete applications.

For the best results, overlap and tape the seams, seal around penetrations, and repair any punctures before placing the concrete.

Need v***r barrier, insulation, or sealing tape for an upcoming pour? Contact Source Mountain Supply for pricing and availability.

🩺 EPS or XPS—which one does your project need?

Dr. Insulation’s answer: It depends!

EPS offers excellent value and is available in multiple densities, thicknesses and compressive strengths for roofing, under-slab, foundation and wall applications.

XPS has a dense, closed-cell structure with strong moisture resistance. Our 2" Kingspan XPS provides:

✅ R-10
✅ 25 PSI compressive strength
✅ Great for under-slab, foundations and below-grade applications

We don’t play foam favorites—we’re insulation suppliers, not referees!

Tell us your application, required R-value and PSI, and we’ll help you choose the right product.

💧 Myth or Fact?

"EPS insulation soaks up water."

Not exactly.

Like many building materials, EPS needs to be used in the correct application. Roofing EPS is typically manufactured at about 1 lb density, while below-grade EPS is usually 2 lb density or greater, making it much denser and designed for foundation and under-slab applications.

Modern EPS has been used successfully under concrete slabs, foundations, roadways, and commercial buildings for decades. The key is choosing the proper density and compressive strength for the project.

Don't let common myths keep you from considering one of the most cost-effective insulation options available.

At Source Mountain Supply, we help contractors choose the right insulation—not just sell foam.

Did you know?

Rigid insulation is tested using standardized ASTM methods, but manufacturers may report R-values at different mean temperatures.

That means two products with the same published R-value may not have been tested under the same conditions.

In general:

EPS thermal performance increases as temperatures get colder.
Polyiso thermal performance decreases as temperatures get colder.
XPS remains relatively stable over a wide temperature range.

Before comparing insulation products, ask one simple question:

"At what mean temperature was the R-value measured?"

It's an important detail that can make a significant difference when selecting insulation for a project—especially in colder climates like Wisconsin.
