Pay Transparency - What is it and why does it matter?
We often assume compensation is private until it becomes a problem. But when pay is unclear, employees fill in the gaps with assumptions:
“Am I underpaid compared to my peers?”
“Why does this role earn more than mine?”
“What actually determines increases here?”
Those unanswered questions don’t stay neutral. They shape trust, retention, and employee decisions to stay or leave.
Pay transparency doesn’t mean every salary is public without context. It means people understand the logic behind pay decisions:
💲how compensation is structured
💲what drives increases
💲what progression looks like
💲how equity is maintained
The real risk isn’t transparency that could lead to comparison (people already compare salaries), it's inconsistency without adequate explanation.
