I’m looking forward to returning to Chestnut Knoll in October for their Alzheimer’s Support Group. 💜

We’ll be talking about “The Meaning Behind the Moment” — looking beyond the words, behaviors, and reactions we sometimes see with dementia to better understand what a person may actually be trying to communicate.

When words become harder to find, behavior often becomes communication. Understanding what may be behind that behavior can change how we respond — and sometimes make a difficult moment feel a little less difficult.

This is an in-person support group, and caregivers, family members, and others supporting someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia are welcome.

Two hours on a Tuesday… and apparently the Comcast crisis isn’t over yet. 😅

Yesterday we tackled a long list of address changes, accounts, passwords, phone calls and all those little details that follow a big move.

We got a lot done.
But I forgot to grab the cable box.

So, I’ll be back Friday—to return the cable box and the last few things on our list—because sometimes helping someone through a transition isn’t one appointment neatly wrapped up with a bow.

Sometimes you make the list. You work the list. You realize there are still a few things left. And you come back.

This is elder care advocacy, too.💚 💛

The “complexities of aging” sometimes look a lot like… Xfinity. 😂

When I tell people I help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, they probably think healthcare decisions, senior living, Medicare, caregiving, and long-term care.
And yes—I do all of that.

But this morning? The complexity is Xfinity.
I'm here before they open, standing in line so I can help my very cute 91-year-old client return her equipment and cancel the service at the home she just moved out of.

She and her sister just pulled up, and they're staying comfortably in the car until we actually need them. Because at 91, you have earned the right not to stand outside waiting for the cable company to open. 😂

These are the parts of a move that nobody really talks about. The cable box. The utilities. The address changes. The phone plan. The dozens of little loose ends that still need handled while a family is managing a really big life transition.

Sometimes aging advocacy looks like navigating a complicated healthcare system.
Sometimes it looks like holding your spot in the Xfinity line, because their AI couldn't authenitcate her account and wouldn't help us ove the phone.

And frankly, I'm not sure which requires more patience. 😉💚💛

Your Medicare plan deserves an annual checkup, too.

An annual review isn’t necessarily about finding a new plan. It’s about understanding what you have, what’s changing—and whether it still fits.

And sometimes, what looks good on paper doesn’t tell the whole story. “In network” doesn’t always mean available when you actually need care.

This week’s Between the Appointments looks at a few things worth considering as Medicare Annual Enrollment approaches.

Some moments just stop you in your tracks.

I had a wonderful day volunteering at the Berks Encore Senior Expo, but one unexpected hug meant more to me than I can put into words.

My grandparents are such an important part of the story behind ElderCARE Collaborative. Today, in a stadium filled with hundreds of people, I got a little reminder of them—and a reminder that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

This one is from the heart. 💚💛
