I'd be remiss not to say this to you all, because I know gardeners/landscapers/farmers are at high risk of skin cancer compared to most people. It's the nature of the beast - we are unavoidably outside so much.
I'm 40 and had skin cancer surgery on my eyelid margin today by a wonderful Mohs surgeon and crew. Needless to say it was still unpleasant, but cancer is moreso, so I'm happy to have it finished with.
My grandpa, who also had skin cancer over the years, used to always mutter at us barefooted summer browned rag tag kids:
"Where's your hat." It wasn't a question. It was a statement.
We'd laugh and run off. But he was right, of course. Wear your damn hat.
