Last night I had the privilege of attending the American Society of Professional Estimators Chapter 3 Orange County monthly meeting in Santa Ana.

Josh Whisenant of ROGER presented on how AI is changing construction management. His presentation was informative and sparked thoughtful discussion and questions from the audience.

I was impressed by the strong turnout at the meeting—about 47 attendees. Architects, engineers, estimators, and project managers from general contractors, subcontractors, and consulting firms came together to learn, connect, and enjoy the evening. Equally impressive- we all got along!

I want to recognize Danielle Leyva of Swinerton Builders, acting president of Chapter 3, for her efforts in promoting this meeting. I believe it was one of the best-attended Chapter 3 meetings in quite some time.

Danielle is the Chief Estimator of Swinerton Education Group in SoCal. I hired Danielle as an estimator for Swinerton several years ago when I was Chief Estimator at Swinerton and I knew she was going to go far in Swinerton, and I was right!

The meeting and presentation were excellent, and reconnecting with several former Swinerton coworkers made the evening especially meaningful.

If anyone reading this is in Orange County, you should check out ASPE Chapter 3 and attend one of their monthly meetings soon.

Yesterday I went to the American Society of Professional Estimators Western Regional Meeting. The meeting was hosted by the San Diego Chapter and held at the beautiful Southwestern Yacht Club. There were many great speakers and presentations and even Reggae music. Awesome job San Diego ASPE Chapter 4!

I want to share an experience that I recently had. But first, I want to let everyone know that my e-mail system was hacked last week because I tried to open a file in an e-mail sent to me from a client that I am working with on a project currently. Turns out, he had been hacked. It took a week, but yesterday at 1:00 am, my system started sending e-mails with a fake file attached to several hundred of my contacts. If you received that e-mail, I hope you deleted it. If you tried to open the file, then your system has been hacked. Please clean out your system and check the RSS feed to make sure there isn't something malicious in there. I am very sorry this happened. I knew very little about how to fix the problem. Fortunately, a wonderful guy named Randy Hill with Sage Networks called me yesterday morning to tell me that he had received the malicious e-mail. He is the IT service/consultant for one of my clients. He asked if I knew how to get rid of the problem and clean my system. I did not. Randy spent over an hour helping me get it all cleaned up. I didn't know him, and he didn't know me. I had to trust him, and he had to be concerned enough about me in order for him to help me. He could have just told me I had a problem and that I needed to get it fixed. But he spent an hour helping a real klutz get his email system repaired. He asked for no payment at all.
I am happy to say my system is now clean. I am very happy to say that I have met a new friend whom I respect and appreciate very much.

This is a post that I made back in January 2022, and it popped up in memories yesterday.
This was a post I made announcing that I was going to start Larry Hendrick Consulting in February 2022. The decision to open Larry Hendrick Consulting was one of the best decisions I ever made. I want to say Happy New Year to all of the folks that worked with me and helped me for these past 4 years, and I want to say Happy New Year and I hope your New Year is filled with success, good health and happiness!
This is what I said in 2022-

I just wanted to let everyone know that after 8 wonderful years at Swinerton - yesterday, January 4th, I have officially retired!

As 2025 comes to a close, I would like to say how grateful and appreciative I am for this very successful year for Larry Hendrick Consulting. A few weeks ago, I thanked my clients and the folks who have trusted me and allowed me to work on their projects throughout this year. I thanked my associates (Alfred, David, and Leo) who helped me provide great service and accurate estimates to my clients over this past year.

In this post, I want to thank God for all that He has provided to me and my wife and partner, Jody Hendrick, and our family throughout this past year.

I also want to wish Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my family, friends, associates, and clients. I hope each and every one of you have a Blessed and wonderful Christmas with your family and friends!

Yesterday I had the privilege of going with Edyta Makoski of Bernards Construction to present to the students at Castle Park High School Construction Trades Class in Chula Vista on the exciting and thrilling topic of Construction Estimating and Quantity Take-offs!
This presentation is part of the program set up and provided by the Julia Morgan Society to share the important and necessary careers in Construction.
Thank you, Edyta, for the great pictures!
I am pleased to say that all 30 of the students seemed to stay awake through the entire presentation and several even asked questions, so hopefully they had some interest and understanding of what I was saying, - ha!
I really enjoyed the opportunity.

That's a wrap on the Spring 2024 Con-74 Construction Estimating class I teach at Norco College! Last night marked our final session of the semester. I'm immensely proud of my students for their excellent attendance, active participation in assignments, and outstanding grades. The estimating class is an integral part of the Construction Management Certification Program. For those interested in the Construction Management Program at Norco, I encourage you to explore it further.

I extend my best wishes for success to all my students in their construction careers. It's also with great pride that I share the news of having inspired at least two students to embark on a career in Estimating!
