Meet Morgan Freeman. A374359 And yes, he has a lot to say about everything. He just doesn’t have any teeth to say it with.
I picked Freeman up from Montgomery County Animal Shelter Texas yesterday for what was supposed to be a day-trip foster.
Somewhere between the first belly rub and watching him roll around in the grass like he had just discovered the greatest invention of all time, I realized there was going to be a problem.
I was going to have trouble bringing him back.
Freeman is estimated to be around 9 years old, and his story is the kind that makes you angry before it makes you cry.
He was first brought to the shelter in 2022 after being found as a stray — shot twice and covered in wounds all over his body. Somehow, he survived.
And now he was found as a stray AGAIN.
This time he came in 10–15 pounds underweight at 55 lbs, heavy heartworm positive, covered in scars and ticks, and completely missing his teeth. His body tells the story of a dog who has spent far too much of his life just trying to survive.
But Freeman?
Freeman did not get the memo that he was supposed to be broken.
This old man is the sweetest, gentlest little soul. His tail never stops thumping. Not when you talk to him. Not when you touch him. Not when you walk into the room. Apparently, after everything he has been through, Freeman has decided that life is still pretty darn good.
He has already met my crew of five dogs and basically said, "Hey y'all, Cool. Which one is my bed?"
He doesn't want much.
He doesn't need a big adventure. He doesn't need to run marathons. He doesn't need to be the life of the party.
Freeman wants a soft bed.
Someone who will look at all those scars and say, "You don't have to earn your place here. You're home."
He has spent enough time on the streets.
He's done enough surviving.
He's got approximately 900 years of life experience.
And he's got the happiest little thumping tail you've ever seen.
Now we just need to find him the person who will give him forever.
Morgan Freeman — available for adoption through MCAS.
And if you happen to be wondering whether I'm emotionally capable of returning him after this little "day trip"…
No. No, I am not. But I'm ready to deliver him to you if you are ready to adopt. 😂❤️
