The Shira Plateau is a World Heritage Site that was formed by the collapse of an ancient volcano thousands of years ago. It is one of the highest plateaus in the world, with an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level. You can explore this scenic area on an easy going day hike that lasts between 4 and 6 hours, with a guide who will show you the views of Uhuru Peak, and its northern glaciers.

Each hiker needs a small rucksack to carry water, warm layered clothing and a raincoat as the weather can change drastically with the summit winds. In addition, a pair of sturdy hiking boots are recommended over trainers as in some areas the ground can be soft.

Standing out against the green swamps and grasslands of Tarangire National Park, the baobab tree symbolizes resilience, beauty and wisdom in Tanzania. Known as the "tree of life", they provide food, water, shelter and medicine for Maasais, elephants and other wildlife that live around them. These iconic trees are native to Tanzania and have an upside-down appearance, with strong roots, thick trunks and thin branches. These bulbous woody giants can live to between two and three thousand years. As a Tanzanian would say: pole, pole ['po'-'le', 'po'-'le'] which means "slowly, slowly" and surely they are in no hurry, scientists have measured their growth rate at only eight millimeters every ten years!
