When we took on this roofing client 4 months ago the goal was straightforward:

Make them visible to people who are already looking for what they do.

The results:
📈 Website clicks up 736% — 14 to 117 per month
📞 Inbound calls up 145% — 11 to 27 per month
👁️ Search impressions up 366% — 4,790 to 22,300
🤖 2,800 appearances inside Google AI Overview results

All organic. All in 4 months. All from building the foundation correctly.

The next phase is scaling what’s working - more content, deeper location coverage, tracking which AI appearances are driving actual calls.

This is a long game. We’re just getting started.

The AI search landscape in 2026 looks like this for contractors:

🔵 Google AI Overviews - live now, pulling from websites, appearing above all traditional results. Earnable through good content and site structure.

🔵 ChatGPT - answering contractor questions daily. Ads coming. Organic citations still based on website credibility and training data.

🔵 Perplexity - smaller but growing fast among research-heavy users. Cites sources directly. Rewards authoritative, specific content.

🔵 Voice search - Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant pulling from Google Business Profile and structured website content.

Four different surfaces. One common denominator: a well-built, credible, content-rich website wins on all of them.

Build the asset once. Show up everywhere.

The three things every home service contractor’s website needs to compete in 2026:

1️⃣ Built for search - proper structure, fast load, mobile-first, location specific
2️⃣ Built for AI - content that answers real questions, structured so Google’s AI can read and cite it
3️⃣ Built to convert - clear calls to action, clickable phone number, trust signals above the fold

A lot of contractor websites are none of these things.

GRAV Revenue Systems builds all three — for contractors specifically, with results you can see.

A lot of agencies are going to start talking about AI visibility now that it's clearly working.

Here's what to watch out for:

❌ Agencies that promise specific AI Overview rankings - nobody can guarantee placement, including us
❌ Agencies that pitch AI visibility as a separate expensive add-on - it should be baked into how your site is built
❌ Agencies that can't show you actual Search Console data proving AI impressions - ask for the screenshot

We can show you the data. We showed you ours.

2,800 AI Overview impressions for a roofing contractor in 4 months. Built into the work, not sold as an upsell.

Hold every agency you speak with to the same standard.

There is one page on your website that has the highest chance of getting you into Google AI Overviews.

It's your FAQ page.

Google's AI is essentially a question-answering machine. It looks for websites that answer specific questions clearly and directly.

A well-built FAQ page does exactly that:
✅ "How long does a roof replacement take?"
✅ "Do you offer financing?"
✅ "What's the difference between repair and full replacement?"
✅ "Are you licensed and insured in [state]?"

These are the exact questions homeowners type into Google and ChatGPT before they call anyone.

If your website answers them clearly, Google's AI surfaces you. If it doesn't, your competitor gets the mention.

Most contractor websites don't have a real FAQ page.

Let's be honest about what ChatGPT ads actually mean for small contractors.

The optimistic take: it opens a new paid channel to reach customers where they're already asking questions.

The realistic take: it will likely favor businesses with bigger budgets at launch - just like Google Ads did when it started.

What that means for independent contractors right now:

✅ Build your organic AI visibility while it's still free to earn
✅ Get your website structured to be mentioned without paying for it
✅ Establish credibility in AI search before the ad auction drives up costs

The contractors who built strong Google organic presence before paid search got expensive are glad they did. Same principle applies here.

The roofing contractor we work with started with zero AI visibility.

Here's the progression over 4 months:

Month 1–2: Website rebuilt. Content restructured. Business information cleaned up across the web.

Month 3: Started appearing in Google AI Overviews for local roofing searches.

Month 4: 2,800 AI Overview impressions. 117 website clicks vs 14 when we started. 27 inbound calls vs 11.

The AI impressions didn't happen by accident. They happened because we built the site specifically to answer the questions Google's AI is looking for answers to.

That's the work. That's the sequence.

09/24/2026

Here's the uncomfortable truth about AI search for contractors:

Google's AI Overview doesn't care how long you've been in business.
It doesn't care how many jobs you've completed. It doesn't care how good your work actually is.

It cares about one thing: does your website answer the question clearly and credibly?

A newer contractor with a well-built website will outrank a 20-year veteran with a outdated one, every time.

This is either a threat or an opportunity depending on which side of it you're on.

The veterans who built their reputation on word of mouth are vulnerable right now. The ones who also build their digital presence have a major leg up.

Big news in the AI search world worth knowing about:

ChatGPT is introducing ads into its platform.

This matters for contractors because ChatGPT has become one of the first places people turn when they have a question — including questions like "what should I look for in a roofing contractor" or "how much does HVAC replacement cost."

Up until now, showing up in ChatGPT answers was purely organic — based on what content the AI had been trained on and what it considered credible.

Ads change that dynamic. It means eventually contractors will be able to pay to appear in ChatGPT answers.

What it doesn't change: the contractors with credible, well-structured websites will still have an advantage. Paid visibility in AI is coming. Earned visibility is already here.
