๐Ÿšจ Updated CDC Bird Flu Guidance for Workers ๐Ÿšจ

The CDC has expanded its interim guidance on protecting workers from bird flu, now including employees in zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, fur farms, aquariums, and wildlife rehabilitation facilities. The new guidance categorizes risk into high, medium, and low exposure based on job tasks.

๐Ÿ”ด High Risk: Direct contact with infected or potentially infected animals, raw milk, or animal secretions.
๐ŸŸ  Medium Risk: Handling healthy animals in areas with confirmed or suspected infections.
๐ŸŸข Low Risk: Working in areas without confirmed cases or with no direct animal contact.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ OSHA Extends National Emphasis Program on Heat-Related Hazards ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

The U.S. Department of Labor has extended OSHAโ€™s National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Outdoor and Indoor Heat-Related Hazards until April 8, 2026. This program has been critical in protecting employees from heat-related injuries and illnesses in workplaces across the country.

๐Ÿ“Š Key achievements so far (2022โ€“2024):

7,000 heat-related inspections conducted
60 citations for General Duty Clause violations
1,392 Hazard Alert Letters issued
Nearly 1,400 employees removed from dangerous heat-related conditions
๐Ÿ” OSHA will continue targeted inspections, compliance assistance, and outreach efforts to prioritize heat safety. Fatalities, complaints, and referrals related to heat hazards will remain a top priority for inspections.
