Yesterday, our team had the opportunity to present at AdventHealth’s Patient Safety Academy, joining leaders who are deeply committed to the safety of their patients, the strength of their teams, and the well-being of their communities.

A consistent theme emerged throughout the day: culture and relationships shape outcomes.

When leaders invest in building high-quality relationships with a service mindset, trust grows. As trust strengthens, organizations see meaningful shifts—lower burnout, improved retention, stronger communication, and better overall performance. Most importantly, these environments contribute to reducing medical errors and supporting safer patient care.

This work is grounded in more than five decades of research through Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) theory, reinforcing what many leaders experience in practice: when people feel valued, heard, and connected, teams perform at a higher level.

On Valentine’s Day, Amy Sweezey shared a powerful conversation with our CEO and Founder, Dr. Robert “Navy Bob” Roncska, and we are grateful for the opportunity.

In Reinventing Leadership from the War Room to the Waiting Room, Navy Bob reflects on his 28 years in the U.S. Navy, commanding a nuclear submarine, serving as a White House Military Aide carrying the nuclear football for President George W. Bush, and later transitioning into healthcare leadership.

We are grateful for the opportunity to spend Thursday morning with Florida public safety officers from across the Orlando area. The honesty, engagement, and shared experience in the room made this a meaningful conversation.

We talked about why servant leadership is so often misunderstood as soft—and why that assumption doesn’t hold up in practice. Chief Richard Beary (ret.) addressed that directly, grounding the discussion in responsibility and accountability.

Dr. Robert “Navy Bob” Roncska shared practical leadership tools, including the Crew Top 3, and spoke about the importance of meaningful purpose when leaders and teams are under pressure.

The session concluded with Chief Carl Metzger (ret.), who led a thoughtful discussion on QPR training and the role leaders play in recognizing when intervention matters.

Thank you to every public safety professional who joined us. We value your service and your willingness to engage in real dialogue.
