AAA Appliance Service Center was founded as a family business named AAA Service Company in suburban Kansas City in 1950 by brothers Charlie and Dale Dolbeare. Dale was drafted by the Chicago Bears, and immediately thereafter by Uncle Sam. In 1958, after Charlie passed away and Dale was discharged from the army, Dale opened the first Chicago location of AAA Service Company in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. Legend holds that the reason for the ‘AAA’ part of the name was that the Fairway, Kansas office was an old remodeled gas station. Since it had a Triple-A Motor Club sign, Charlie was too “frugal” to let a perfectly good sign go to waste; hence, AAA Service Company was born.
