Woodburn Fire District is teaming up with NFPA to promote this year’s Fire Prevention safety message: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴

Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor. Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.

Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Leaving it plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and stress on the battery.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly.

A big thank-you to Heritage Elementary School for hosting a career fair for students and families on September 24.

Woodburn Fire volunteer firefighters, alongside Fire Marshal Ortiz, were happy to share important fire and life safety information and help students learn about the many ways firefighters serve and support our community.

We are grateful for our volunteer firefighters who generously give their time to serve and educate others.

We couldn't do what we do without them!

As part of Fire Prevention month, each October community members are invited to tour Woodburn Fire District’s headquarters, Station 21, on Newberg Hwy., ride in the antique fire truck, practice using a fire extinguisher and run a firefighter challenge course. Over thirty other safety and community support vendors from throughout the valley were also present to display a variety of resources available to help families.

Woodburn’s Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) coordinator Uli Reich is the organizer of this event and shared, “the feedback we receive from vendors, volunteers and the public is that the event was a lot of fun. With nearly 600 visitors in attendance, this year’s event was another huge success.”

The Woodburn C.E.R.T team, currently made up of 45 community volunteers, educates the public about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact our area and trains for basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operation. Volunteers participate in 21 hours of hands-on courses which include varying degrees of safety, assessments and treatment. The goal of the program is to train volunteers to be effective and efficient in disaster mitigation, response and recovery.

Fire Chief Jim Walker stated that, “The success of our Open House is due to the coordinated leadership of the C.E.R.T team and supported efforts of Woodburn Fire career and volunteer membership, and our community partners. We would like to thank all who participated and attend this very special event.”

The Woodburn Fire District is seeking public/private sponsorship to help advance fire prevention education and training throughout our community. Donated funds will be used to help purchase a remotely operated "Sparky the Fire Dog." The total investment to complete the purchase is $13,500.

These interactive tools will help us connect to our younger population while providing engaging fire and life safety education to children, families, schools, businesses, and community groups. This is more than the purchase of an educational tool - it is an investment in the safety of our community and next generation; teaching audiences of all ages and helping firefighters deliver important fire prevention messages in a fun, memorable, and effective way.

We would like to thank sponsoring partners from Fraternal Order of Eagles #3284 for donating $1,600 and French Prairie Kiwanis for donating $3,000.

A special thank you to Panor 360 resident and retired U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran Jimmy Apple for inviting us to participate in the retirement of an American flag and the dedication and hanging of a new flag on Friday, September 11th.

It was an honor for the Woodburn Fire District to be part of this special ceremony and to share in a moment that represents so much more than a flag. The American flag is a symbol of the freedom, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have given so much to our country.

Thank you, Jimmy, for allowing us to be part of this meaningful dedication. And to all of the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country: we are grateful for your service and sacrifice. 🇺🇸

25 Years Later — We Remember. 🇺🇸

Each year on September 11, local first responders gather together to reflect, remember, and honor.

This morning, Woodburn Ambulance, Woodburn Fire District, Woodburn Police Department, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office came together for a private gathering—an opportunity for those who serve our communities to stand together and remember our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. A quarter-century has passed, but the memories of that day—and the lives forever changed by it—remain with us.

Together, we reflected on that morning and observed in moments of silence the events that changed our nation was forever. We remembered the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, EMTs, and other first responders who ran toward danger to help others. We remembered the civilians who lost their lives. And we remembered the families, friends, and communities left behind.

For those of us who wear the uniform today, September 11 is more than a date in history. It is a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, compassion, and selflessness that define the first responder profession.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to those who helped make this morning possible: Fire Chief Jim Walker, Woodburn Police Department Lieutenant Andy Shadrin, Woodburn Fire District Captain Jon Koenig, Fire and Police Chaplain Luis Molina, Firefighter/Engineer Dan Agee, Firefighter Marshal Bray, and Retired U.S. Army Colonel Bryan Stewart, who helped lead us through this time of reflection and remembrance.

We would also like to thank Chick-fil-A and the Woodburn Pastoral Association for providing and serving breakfast for our first responders.

Twenty-five years later, we pause together.

We remember.
We honor.
We reflect.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸
