Your animals are treated as of high importance/care in the comfort of their own home/environment. HI, I'm Christina and thank you for coming to my page. Animals and humans have always been a passion of mine and for 22 plus years I have been doing both. I specialize in special needs animals of all shapes & sizes as I have had my own and grown up with and around some special cases. Of course, I will

take any need for care. I have worked with horses and dogs most of my life as I grew up with them and around them the most. It’s hard to find good trustworthy people nowadays to care for your animals. That is why when you leave and trust me with them your animals are my animals from the time you leave till the time you come home. My care, is the exact care if not more to what I expect for my animals. My clients and friends have said that my compassion for animals is one of a kind. I truly believe in paying attention to all and how they are doing each time I am with them. My experience comes from many different people along the way, classes, experiences and professionals. I never stop learning. I put myself in situations, I ask to tag along, sign up for classes, watch, etc.. My biggest teachers have been my rescue animals, as I have been blessed to take in animals that needed a home with love and patience and in return with out knowing it, I was given life lessons some may never learn. I do what you wish for your animals while you are gone as long as it in no way, will hurt or endanger the animal. If I feel something can become a danger or see a issue I will let you know and while under my watch alter it, once you are back it is up to you to do as you please. I am certified in emergency equine and Dog emergencies/issues as well. SAFTEY is my number one thing for your animals, if I see something I will let you know. Dogs, no one is allowed off leash in my care ( as time goes on, that can change, every situation is different) and I do not take dogs to dog parks, etc.. I have always had a passion for animals wild or not. For market or for fun! I don’t judge and I have done all farm animals, some more then others. I just believe that all animals deserve proper care and treatment no matter the end game. Most experienced in: Equine, chickens, goats, donkeys, cows, dogs and cats. I currently own two SR mares and one cat!! My mares have some special needs and I had a cat with advanced kidney disease that needed IV fluids daily. I lost a Sr mare in September 2022 to Cushings (PPID), laminitis, metabolic/insulin issues. I have a lot of training in special needs for farm and domesticated animals! I have worked with a Great Dane rescue for 10+ years now and did some time ago own one as well, that ended up with a special need very early in life due to improper feeding in his early puppy life. Please feel free to send me any questions, never hurts to ask. I look forward to working with you all!!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has provided an important update on New World Screwworm which has been detected in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas. Read the full press release here: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/news/agency-announcements/usda-confirms-presence-new-world-screwworm-united-states

General information about New World Screwworm (NWS) can be found in the text below and in the attached infographic.

The adult screwworm fly is about the size of a common housefly (or slightly larger), with orange eyes, a metallic blue or green body, and three dark stripes along its back. It gets its name from the behavior of its larvae (maggots) as they burrow (screw) into the wound, feeding as they go. The maggots (larvae) cause extensive damage by tearing at the hosts’ tissue with sharp mouth hooks. The wound can quickly become enlarged and deeper as more maggots hatch and feed on living tissue.

Because they feed on live flesh, NWS maggots may burrow deep into wounds or openings, while other species of maggots may appear around the outer surface of the wound. In addition, even the smallest wounds have the potential to attract flies, so it is imperative that you keep a close eye on your animals for any signs of wounds.

Lastly, NWS infestations are a reportable disease! Immediately report any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations to a local accredited veterinarian, your State Animal Health Official, or a USDA veterinarian.

Update on overnight stays: within 5-8 miles of my home base, short stays could be possible at this time. I will not be booking those out too far ahead.

I am not sure that I have ever called out a product publicly on social media before but after a client consult today, I feel compelled to do so. Not because you would be wasting your money if you fed it (there are lots of those), but because it could have serious health consequences for some horses.

A client with a PPID horse has been feeding Havens Natural Balance as her balancer. On investigation of this product, it sounded promising as it claims that it “helps horses who are prone to laminitis, summer itch and insulin resistance.” This is due to the fact that it has “No added sugars and is completely free of molasses.” However, on closer investigation of the nutrient guarantees and ingredients, I was shocked to find the starch listed as 36.7% giving this feed a whopping NSC of 39.5%. This feed is entirely inappropriate and could in fact be considered dangerous to feed to a horse with insulin resistance especially one with a history of laminitis.

Let me be clear, no metabolic horse should be fed this feed and Haven’s should be ashamed of positioning this feed as being a safe option for such horses.
