One thing that truly amazes me is how sensitive horses are to our energy and emotions. They are incredibly perceptive and can offer us valuable insights into the power of nonverbal communication.
They can sense our emotions, whether we’re feeling joyful, anxious, or calm. This sensitivity stems from their survival instincts in the wild, where detecting subtle changes in their environment could mean the difference between life and death.
When we interact with horses, they mirror our emotional state. If we’re stressed or tense, they may become uneasy. Conversely, if we approach them with calmness and positivity, they respond with trust and relaxation. This dynamic teaches us the importance of self-awareness and emotional regulation.
A great example of this is the day of the photoshoot for Enjoy Cherokee Magazine - https://enjoycherokee.com/horses-lead-the-way/. Everyone was. excited, energized, and, yes, even anxious about the session. Striped Lady, pictured below, was quick to tell us through her own body language—she displayed excitement, nervousness, and lots of energetic movements—how we were showing up.
As we adjusted our energy and emotions – so did Striped Lady.
This is the beauty of partnering with horses to support your growth as a high-EQ leader. Their immediate feedback and nonjudgmental presence create space for personal development.
