Proud to announce that Forge Ahead Imaging is now offering in-house Film Development for all C41 Color and B&W 35mm and 120mm film stocks, starting at $18 for your first roll, $8 for each additional roll.

And yes, this is actually done here, it’s not shipped off to somewhere else and waiting weeks to get your images back and getting absolutely no feedback on how your images turned out.

You can just have us just develop your film and you can scan it yourself, or have us scan at 6400dpi in JPEG+TIFF format for an additional $6 per roll. And if you want to have our full service scanning with color correction, it’s $10 more per roll.

And our turnaround time: 2-5 business days. Significantly less than other places.

You can scan the QR code to go to our website to learn more if you’re interested. Please make sure you follow the instructions on the website because we do not offer a mail-in service and you must be able to drop off your rolls of film to our location in Wyoming, MI.

Film developing is getting very close to launching here. Just waiting on the developers to arrive. Once I process my test rolls and they turn out how I would expect them to, the service will be a-go for here in the West Michigan region!

Hello everyone!

Some big changes are happening here at Forge Ahead Imaging and they’re ones I’ve been wanting to share and do for a long time since I’ve launched this business 2 years ago now.

First, we have a new logo! While the original logo served its purpose to get some sort of branding, it was time to retire it and create something new. This new one, I wanted it to have a retro feel, but also still look more modern, and also pay homage to physical media with the colors and styling.

Second, we are going to be switching over to a new ordering catalog system. While ROES was familiar to me and many of you, the burden of the cost of the software every year had become too great and really is not meant for a print shop of my size. I’m currently working on acquiring new ordering catalog software and hoping to start testing it here by the end of October. More information, alongside a beta test will be announced sometime in October. There may be a period where we could be in between software and I will have to come up with a temporary solution so folks can get their orders in.

Third, I will be launching around that same time, or before the new ordering software, a certain service that has been highly requested and a need in the Grand Rapids area: Film Developing!
I’ve had so many people come to me who have not been happy with film developing services in our area and I want to change that. Bring the development back locally, not have a 3rd party do it off somewhere who takes weeks to do it. I’ll be offering 35mm and 120mm film in both traditional black & white and C41 color.

I will be offering all of the same products going into the rest of 2026 and into 2027. So far, none of the issues caused by a certain political individual has really affected any part of the business, other than some minor cost changes here and there. I will be keeping an eye on suppliers and will let you all know if any changes will need to happen.
Thank you all for sticking with me! I’m hoping some of these changes will help everyone and myself going forward and hoping for some smooth transitions with all that’s going on here.

Wanted to get ahead of the ball and put out there our stance on printing AI generated images through us.

It is, and will always be a “NO.”

We will not put in the effort to make the absolute poor image quality these LLMs produce onto paper. That right should and always be reserved for those that put in the work and effort into making their designs, shots, layout, photographs, onto a physical medium.

The models used for AI generation is all stolen and scraped copyrighted data from the internet and the huge negative environmental impact these data centers have on our air and water quality within the communities they are being built in. Not to mention, directly is the reason why the hardware we use to make our works, like our desktops, laptops, cameras, flash memory, even large storage drives, all have gone up thanks to this AI garbage.

And yes, we can tell if an image is AI generated. You can’t hide that with those fliers we’ve all seen over the Internet that are all look the same.

Shoot in 120mm film? Have access to West Michigan? We can handle your scanning! Starting at $25, we can digitally archive your negatives (or positives if you’ve got slides!) in high resolution 6400dpi TIFF and JPEG images. They also will receive basic color correction and dust removal so that step will be done for you. And hey, if you want a little more work done on the pictures like full image restoration, it’s only a small additional charge.

Hey y’all! We’re still here! It has been a busy few months. Suffered a computer crash so lost mostly everything and had to re-setup the printing computer, dealt with sweltering heat because the AC died in the shop and only got fixed today, and not to mention just been very busy overall with a lot of stuff coming in, which that at least is very good! 🎉👏

Been experimenting also with trying out DaVinci Resolve as a potential replacement for Adobe Lightroom. It’s very basic but I can see this growing into its own suite for photo and video editing. Anyone else just been sick of Adobe’s mess and want to move on? 😅

Hey folks! An idea popped into my head! Would y’all like some premade layout templates on ROES for ordering Gallery Mounts, like this signing board I’m doing for a family member’s senior open house? Price would not be any different, just you can pick from different layouts among common sizes. It’d save you a step then too and not have to lay it out in an editor.

An interesting find at Five Below, a 10-exposure roll of black and white film. It’s definitely a little bit on the pricy side considering it was $7 while your basic roll of 36-exposure B&W Ilford H5 is $12 at B&H Photo. It does seem to use the basic D76 process so it can be used with any B&W process, so shall see how it goes.
