Happy retirement, John!

John has been a trusted advisor to the Kinsley family for almost 40 years. He served in many roles over the years – field superintendent, maintenance manager, and director of employee services and risk management, just to name a few. He has been our go-to guy for numerous responsibilities and roles throughout his tenure. Always one to do whatever was asked of him, John has given more to us than we can ever put into a simple social media post. When asked about his time at Kinsley he stated, “This is the best company on the planet. No matter how large it gets, you aren’t just a number. The Kinsleys are a great family and have great folks working for them.”

There was no shortage of people willing to sing his praises, from “a good listener, easy to work with and a great friend,” to “someone you can always count on.” One co-worker stated, “He is one of a kind. He’ll do anything you ask and yet won’t take the credit. When he speaks, you listen because you know he has the knowledge, experience and really cares about you and his job.” One of his mentees also had a lot to say, “Without his knowledge, experience and mentorship, I wouldn’t be the employee I am now. My hope is to serve the company as well as he has over the years. John, I promise to never empty the rectangular filing cabinet!”

While we’ll miss him dearly, we know he will keep himself busy. He has always been civic-minded – he served as a volunteer firefighter for 30 years and later was the fire chief – and participated in numerous Boards and Councils over his career. When not working or volunteering, he and his wife, Sue, love to travel. Mostly, they follow their grandchildren around to various sporting events (they are quite the hockey family) but also just like to see new sights. They also frequent the mountains of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, exploring the trails on their four-passenger UTV. Thank you for your years of service and for helping to make Kinsley the success it is; we hope you have a great retirement, John!

During the Coronavirus outbreak, many construction projects have been shut down while other projects need to continue as we support life-sustaining businesses and critical infrastructure. As these projects continue and start back up, crews are working hard to keep our job sites safe. Kinsley’s Highway and Bridge team found a way to fabricate handwashing stations on our job sites and crews have begun using them for multiple divisions and projects. Crews are also following CDC guidelines by wearing masks and practicing social distancing on job sites. We are incredibly proud of our employees’ efforts during this time.

Since the opening of their second location on Haines Road, the York County Food Bank has distributed thousands of emergency boxes to help those in need!

With an increased need for assistance, Kinsley Properties was happy to donate the space on Haines Road for the food bank. Crews quickly pulled together to prepare the space, activate plumbing and heating, and obtain the proper occupancy permit from the township. Thank you to everyone who helped get the space ready and those at the York County Food Bank for continuing to help our community during this time.

Patriot Broadband Construction, a Kinsley Enterprises company, is working hard to support critical communication facilities necessary to ensure first responders, public messaging, 911 communications and other lifesaving capabilities remain functional. With an increased demand on the system, the team is performing nationwide maintenance to keep networks up and running.

About 10 field workers are still traveling out of town, sometimes for a week at a time, to support maintenance efforts. To ensure their safety while traveling, a supply of hand sanitizer was needed - but unavailable due to an overall shortage. With quick thinking, our crews secured materials to make their own sanitizer - creating enough to supply our field teams while out on the job.

We’d like to commend these folks for going above and beyond to continue to serve their clients while keeping everyone as safe as possible.

Our philosophy has always been to give back to the communities that have supported us over the years, and those in which our employees live and work. Helping our local community through this time is a top priority for the Kinsley family, and to that end, we are proud to support the York County COVID-19 Response Fund with a $30,000 donation.

Created by the United Way of York County and the York County Community Foundation, this fund will provide grants to local not-for-profit organizations such as food banks and housing assistance programs to assist those most affected by the pandemic in York County. We’re incredibly proud of our Kinsley team and sister companies who have joined together to donate over 550 N-95 masks and counting to local professionals on the front lines of COVID-19.

As the requests came in, our crews scoured job sites and storage rooms to make sure we found every available piece of PPE to donate, and we plan to continue sourcing masks, gloves and face shields to support our local healthcare workers. Thank you to those who are working hard to keep our communities safe and healthy during this time.
