The Purple Heart plant (Tradescantia pallida) is a resilient, drought-tolerant groundcover that works well for stabilizing soil on light slopes, HOWEVER, it is not ideal for heavy drainage control or controlling heavy runoff during the Caribbean's intense tropical downpours. Its roots are highly susceptible to rot if exposed to standing water, making it a poor choice for rain gardens or poorly drained areas.
