In this session, we explored life through the lens of being who we truly are. From this perspective, life isnโt a struggle but a game. And of all the games we playโcareer, business, wealth, and moreโbusiness most clearly reveals our core beliefs and sense of self.
Essentially, there are two ways to play: the Shortage Game, rooted in separation and win/lose, and the Abundance Game, based on connection and win/win. These are fundamentally different ways of being, not just different strategies.

The typical businessman follows the conventional pathโfocused on competition, strategy, and market positioning. Success means climbing the ladder and outperforming others. But itโs often a grind, driven by scarcity and constant effort. Operating in the red ocean, they merely move from 1 to 2, as Peter Thiel puts it. This is the essence of the Shortage Game.

The true entrepreneur plays differently. They donโt compete; they create. Instead of following convention, they stay true to their authentic self. They play by their own rules and are a category of their own. Here, work becomes play and a job becomes a calling. They operate in the blue ocean, leaping from 0 to 1. This is the Abundance Game.

Consequently, great leadersโacross all industriesโshare four key traits: they know who they are and live it unapologetically, create their own reality, fully trust their inner guidance, and play the Abundance Game with a long-term vision.

The clearest expression of the abundance mindset in business is probably the luxury strategyโsummed up by Karl Lagerfeldโs motto: โNever compare, never compete.โ This approach is rooted in identity, creativity, and visionโthe very core of the Abundance Game.
However, this strategy only works when we truly understand who we are and what we stand for. That level of clarity is rareโand so this game is played only by the most exceptional players.

To play the Abundance Game, we must stop following and start leading. And that begins not with goals, but with vision. Vision, in turn, requires self-knowledgeโand without self-knowledge, nothing we achieve is truly worthwhile.
The students grasped this intuitively. Itโs no surprise, then, that many of their questions during the Q&A centered on the foundations of self-realization: Who am I? What is my purpose? How do I find my passion?
Thanks again to Mr. Ly Qui Trung, LQT Institute Viแปn Doanh Nhรขn ฤฦฐฦกng ฤแบกi and Western Sydney University Vietnam for hosting this workshop. Sharing this unconventional take on business with such a young audience was a great experienceโand they really got it.
