Last month, I led Session 5 of 6 in my Leadership Workshop with the Downtown Denver Leadership Program. We focused on Leadership on the Line, a powerful leadership guide, and worked together to apply its concepts to the real-world challenges these rising leaders are facing.

Today, we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and reflect on the importance of freedom, resilience, and equality. As the City Council sponsor who helped make Juneteenth an official holiday in the City and County of Denver, I am reminded of the significant role leadership plays in fostering meaningful change.

I am honored to have been invited by Denver City Council members Watson and Lewis to speak at the Juneteenth proclamation on Monday. Thank you both for this opportunity to discuss our progress and the work that still lies ahead.

Yesterday, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a day of immense bravery and sacrifice. On that pivotal day in 1944, the courage displayed by those soldiers, sailors, and airmen was unparalleled, and their actions changed the course of history.

The leadership exemplified on D-Day offers timeless lessons. It teaches us the importance of preparation and decisiveness, of unity and collaboration towards a common goal. These individuals understood that true leadership means stepping up in moments of crisis, making tough decisions, and showing resilience.

As we honor the heroes of D-Day, we remember that their legacy extends beyond the battlefield. Their leadership, courage, and sacrifice serve as a beacon, reminding us that great challenges require great leaders. Today, we draw inspiration from their example, striving to lead with the same valor and dedication in our own lives. Let us never forget their courage and the enduring impact of their actions on that historic day.
