With the turn of the quarter, I have one open seat for Executive Coaching and one open seat for Strategy Consulting/Fractional Executive support.

I'm proud of the frameworks and approaches I've built over the years because they enable me to deliver greater value to clients in a standout way. I love hearing from happy clients who have found our work valuable – it literally makes my day.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or unclear on your strategy, let's connect. Right now, I'm focusing on clients in the behavioral health / health tech space (though I welcome others), and invite you to reach out if you're looking for support so we can discuss your goals.

The Situational Leadership II model has gained a ton of popularity with practitioners, though widespread adoption among everyday leaders is still gaining momentum. Of course, it’s just one of many frameworks available to us, but it’s a simplified framework I’ve grown to appreciate for its practical application. For this reason, I thought it would be helpful to take a look at this model and unpack each area for those business leaders looking for practical approaches to leading their teams. My latest post breaks down the model for leaders (link in bio).

I often talk with my students and coachees about the difference between motivation and inspiration, but daily efforts are a critical component of achieving your goals. It may feel like you're not yet where you want to be, but it's the small daily habits that make incremental differences.

Part of developing a culture that drives business growth is giving way for people to be who they are. Some of the most successful companies in the world are those that enable people to find their own path and take ownership in building toward the goal. Strong leadership is about leading and allowing people to create their own solutions to solving problems.

Competitive advantage is always relative to your competition. It's not sufficient to just be good at something or even to be great at something if everyone else is great as well. This goes for a business as much as it goes for your individual professional success.

What does leadership mean to you?

When I work with executives who are navigating how they want to lead and build their teams, I often start with this question: Think of a leader in your life who you admire, whether you know them personally or have learned from them from afar. How do they make you feel? What about them leads you?

A fundamental principle in business strategy is the idea that change is the only constant. To put it more technically, over time economic profits tend to dissipate as markets evolve. So success in the past does not guarantee success in the future.

We know markets are going to evolve in some way. New technologies are going to come about, new business models, or maybe simply customer preferences change over time, and as a result past success might not continue moving into the future.

My question for you is how are you creating an infrastructure that is open to change?

It's ok to pivot. It's ok to learn and take a new path. It's a journey.

A little something to noodle on while you're enjoying the day off. Dorothy Leonard-Barton has a great article where she talks about core capabilities becoming core rigidities. What made you a success in the past becomes a hindrance to making the change necessary for the future.

In business, we know that failure to innovate eventually leads to a likelihood you'll fall out of the market. The same is true of your own personal success. If we rely on the same tricks, skills, and habits that got us to where we are now, we'll stay stuck and eventually become irrelevant. Continual evolution, growth, and development make a difference in your trajectory.

What "new" thing are you committing to?

We often use Sundays for meal prep and budgeting, but for most of us that doesn't include Body Budgeting.

I recently explored this topic in one of my certifications and have been obsessed with it since. The idea of Body Budgeting has been around for several years, but it's an underutilized framework for Business Leaders.

A crucial aspect of leading your business and teams effectively is being a balanced leader yourself, which requires you to manage what's going on in your body.

The idea of Body Budgeting is derived from the fact that to stay alive, our bodies need to expend and receive energy and resources. It's an analogy business leaders will be familiar with - financial forecasts. Just like companies have an accounting department that plans for expected expenditures and income, our brains manage our bodies to keep the books balanced.

At every moment, our brains are anticipating our bodies’ needs, and deciding where to spend resources. Through a mixture of lifestyle choices and our ability to understand what our bodies are telling us we can help the brain balance our body budgets. Unfortunately, for many... our bodies are pulling from a deficit, but it’s not sustainable.

To balance the books, we need to invest more resources in our body budgets:
-eating well
-developing supportive relationships
-creating the right routine and environment
-improve our interoception

How's your budget looking lately?

Someone in one of my classes the other day mentioned this quote and I haven't been able to get it out of my head.

I think we often need this reminder in a world where we feel misunderstood - not just by others, but by ourselves too. When it seems as if you're walking against the wind without reprieve, remember you're stronger, smarter, and braver than any situation coming at you.

Sales are not the only way to sustain growth. In fact, that's more of a byproduct, not a strategy.

Scaling with limited resources and sustaining that momentum is not easy, but recognizing the right signals can make all the difference.

1 - Hire Intentionally - Just because you need people immediately, doesn't mean you hire the first application. Taking the time to hire the right employees can make a difference in your sustained growth. The costs of a bad hire can add up and affect your people.

2 - Pivot Wisely - Don't misunderstand what agile means. Pivots are healthy and ok, but if you're not reallocating resources as needed, you're creating financial tension and killing your bottom line.

3 - Clarify the Vision - It's said a lot, but for some reason doesn't stick. Your vision makes a complete difference in the decisions you make and how your team operates. If you're constantly changing the vision or it's not clear, you can't sustain growth.

The brain wiring for our strengths can be seen as early as age 2. Strengths make it easy for us to do certain things. When they're blocked or ignored, the result is frustration, confusion, and low self-esteem.

The most effective leaders operate with holistic strength – tactical, character, emotional, and physical. Coaching helps to support the development of strengths so leaders can unlock their potential.
