Across South Africa, entrepreneurs are proving that opportunity can start small and grow into something powerful. For many informal traders, even R50 can become the first step towards income, independence, and business growth.

At the IFN Impact Finance Facility launch, Qwili founder and CEO Thandwefika Radebe shared how entrepreneurs across South Africa are building businesses from within their own communities, creating income and opening access to opportunity.

Through the IFN Impact Finance Facility we support entrepreneurs with access to capital, business support and investor readiness programmes designed to help businesses grow sustainably.

By partnering for progress, we believe entrepreneurs and small businesses can help strengthen local economies and support a more inclusive South Africa.

Today is . It is a moment to think seriously about the support, guidance and positive examples young people need as they grow.

Boys are shaped by what they see at home, how they are guided at school, the friendships they build, and the values they are encouraged to practise in their communities. Confidence, respect, accountability, and emotional well-being start early - something we all have a role in shaping.

This makes today’s national launch of 2 even more meaningful. Through our partnership with Primestars and the Youthstart Foundation, we are helping take the programme to young people across South Africa.

When young people are supported early, they can build healthier relationships, make stronger choices and play a positive role in the communities around them.

At today’s launch of 2, learners arrived with their own experiences. Educators brought the realities they see in schools every day. Government, business, civil society and partners came together with a shared responsibility to support young people earlier, with the right tools, guidance, and spaces to learn.

What About The Boys 2 creates space for boys and girls to think about who they are, how they relate to others, and the choices that shape their futures. Through film, mentorship and guided discussion, it helps young people engage with respect, identity, emotional well-being, relationships and leadership in a way that speaks to real life.

As lead sponsor, we are proud to support Primestars and the YouthStart Foundation in taking this work forward.

For us, this work reflects our commitment to South Africa and our belief that progress happens when the right partners come together.

Twelve learners from surrounding communities in the Northern Cape and Limpopo are now studying at three of South Africa's leading independent schools: Roedean School for Girls and St John's College in Johannesburg, and St Patrick's CBC in Kimberley.

They are the inaugural cohort of the SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) scholarship programme, the community trust of our Kumba Iron Ore business. Launched in 2025, the programme supports high-performing Grade 7 learners from Quintile 1 to 3 schools across the Trust's five beneficiary municipalities. The Trust covers tuition, accommodation, extracurricular activities, and a personal stipend.

For one scholarship recipient who would otherwise have walked 10 km to reach her nearest secondary school, the ambition has shifted from possibility to intent: "I now want to study at Cambridge University."

Established in 2006, the SIOC Community Development Trust invests in the long-term development of the communities where we operate. This scholarship reflects that work in action. It expands access, recognises potential, and creates the conditions for young people to step forward with confidence and shape their own futures.

Meet Tlhalefo Dithebe, founder of Agro Queen, a livestock farming business in Kuruman, Northern Cape.

Farming runs deep in her family. Her late grandfather farmed in the Kuruman district, her father continued the tradition, and in 2021, Tlhalefo stepped forward to carry that legacy with pride. Drawn back to farming by the importance of food security, she made the brave decision to resign from a permanent retail job and start Agro Queen with just 31 cattle.

Today, she manages 133 cattle and 147 goats and is growing her operation with patience and purpose through strategic breeding, introducing artificial insemination to improve bloodlines. She has also built a goat milk venture after discovering it improved her son's eczema and realising how many other families could benefit from it, too.

To strengthen her business skills, she joined our Zimele business accelerator programme. The programme introduced her to AI for business planning, capacity building, and brand design, including the labels she now uses on her milk bottles.

"Farmers are the reason we are able to have a meal three times a day," she says.

At 12 years old, her daughter is already planting watermelons, tomatoes, and butternut, small hands learning big lessons, carrying the family’s farming tradition into a fourth generation.

International World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an important reminder of what matters most. In mining, safety is a shared responsibility. It lives in the choices we make every day, for ourselves, for each other, and for the people waiting for us at home.

At Anglo American, safety is our number one Value. It guides how work is planned, how tasks are carried out, and how we look after one another across our operations.

As we mark this day, we are reminded that healthy and safe workplaces depend on both discipline and care, from the way work is planned to the way people are supported.

Today marks the official launch of Envusa Energy’s Koruson 2 projects a joint venture between Anglo American and EDF power solutions. Envusa Energy was established to build a large‑scale renewable energy ecosystem capable of delivering between 3 and 5 GW of clean energy by 2030. Koruson 2 is one of South Africa’s largest private‑sector renewable energy developments to date, and a clear signal of what can be achieved when ambition is matched by collaboration.

Beyond energy generation, the impact is tangible. More than 2 000 jobs have been created, and R73 million has been invested in local SMMEs and socio‑economic development initiatives strengthening local capability and long‑term opportunity.

Anglo American has been part of South Africa’s story for more than a century, and each initiative and project we undertake is designed to unlock opportunity, build resilience, and ensure progress is shared. When the world looks to South Africa for progress, progress has a partner – Anglo American.

Named one of the Minerals Council South Africa's Women in Mining Education and Development Heroes for 2025, Simone Botha is recognised for leadership built on developing people and strengthening capability.

At Kumba Iron Ore's Modular Plant, she leads a team of 66, with women now making up half of the operation. Two historically disadvantaged women have progressed into supervisory roles, supported by targeted development and technical exposure.
She has reshaped development across her team so that every plan builds practical, role-based skills, and is working with the University of Pretoria to develop an iron ore programme that strengthens understanding across the value chain.

Leadership that builds skills, expands opportunity, and supports more women to take their place across mining.

Water is a vital resource shared by communities, ecosystems, and industry. Across our Kumba Iron Ore operations, we are dedicated to responsible water management, with a strong focus on protecting, preserving, and restoring our water sources for long-term sustainability.

Utilising advanced technologies in the Northern Cape, we recover up to 80% of the water used in our operations. Our integrated approach enhances both community water supply and industrial needs, resulting in stronger water systems that reliably support our operations and the communities we serve over time.
