PORES ARE NOT DOORS
Pores do not open and close. They are small openings in the skin through which oil and sweat reach the surface.
Several factors are said to be associated with pores:
+ Genetics
+ Sebum (oil) production
+ Age-related loss of skin elasticity
+ Sun-induced collagen breakdown
+ A build-up of oil and dead skin cells
Steam may temporarily soften surface debris, but it does not “open” pores. Cold water does not close them.
Although pores cannot be permanently removed, their appearance may be reduced with appropriate skincare, including daily sunscreen and, where suitable, retinol, professionally administered chemical peels and medical aesthetic treatments such as microneedling, selected laser or energy-based treatments for appropriately selected patients
Not every option is suitable for every skin type. Some treatments may cause irritation, pigmentation changes or other complications, particularly when used incorrectly.
Always consult an appropriately trained, HPCSA-registered medical practitioner for evidence-based, individualised care and the appropriate management of potential complications.
Pores are normal. The goal is healthier-looking skin, not poreless skin.
