My teacher self care this week… yeah, it sucked. I’m living off of coffee and chocolate. Very little sleep and blurred boundaries regarding work-home life. But….I’m gonna forgive myself and remember this is the yucky stretch. Dear October - how you exhaust us teachers.

On the upside - amaaaaazing student project presentations today, conversations with my students that make me proud, and sunsets watching my girls ride. Got in some horse therapy and pet this beautiful boy for about 15 minutes. 😍 Ahhhhh.

I am so excited for this new book to come out. 😆🎉😆 I’m a non-fiction/personal development lover and has been one of my faves the past 5 years. Many of my high school students select it for our “soft skills” project & love it too! BEYOND excited for some positivity and new learning.

Reading for enjoyment (ya know, versus student work to be graded) is most definitely something I’ve been doing more of this school year. I’m still a work in progress but I’ve learned that evenings are for me and not work. Ending the day reading something fun - while my girls read too - has become a part of my and has also helped my evening routine.

The last 2 days I stayed waaay too late at school working away. Today… I remembered my healthy happy teacher priorities and left school for a holiday weekend on time. Watching my girls play while soaking up some sun. Cool breeze on my face. The sound of children playing make-believe. This is most definitely my and . To just sit and listen and be.

This is ready for

After 3 long weeks of kicking off the school year, this teacher made sure to get outside today. I needed to be away from the computer. It rained this morning (very atypical!) and so I slipped on my gardening gloves and weeded & tended to my succulent garden and zinnias. Super grateful to for my pallet gardening station! Amazing how some can put life into

Yesterday I opened work email and yup, the brain clicked on. But unlike in the past, I completed the tasks I needed to and shifted back. As my dear reminds me - “put it in a box and place it to the side.” ✔️

Being able to shift in roles can be a superpower and key strategy for ! 💪

So now I’m back to mom/ mode - today, watching my girls at their basketball league practice. 🏀🥰

Slow summer afternoons. Much needed after last year’s crazy school year. Lots of reflection as I watch my girls ride horses and enjoy the sun and breeze. Hooray for some summer selfcare!

Each and every day I speak with, listen to, text, Zoom, and pray for the many exhausted teachers who are giving it their all. This sees you. This instructional sees you.

It’s okay for us to self-care.
It’s okay for us to say no.
It’s okay for us to admit it’s too much.

For my fellow teachers out there who are wondering (like me) what this next season will be like... it’s okay. It’s okay to feel uncertain. It’s okay if you didn’t work at all over break. It’s okay to have boundaries.

I spent the break focused on ... which for me was teaching my daughters the game of Clue and Uno, reading for fun (and not educational articles re: distance learning pedagogy), and baking holiday treats. I watched the Mandalorian with my family. I organized. I journaled. I crocheted. I rested.

I did not plan or grade or think about the million to-do’s that will hit tomorrow. We can’t pour from an empty cup.

Teacher friends - Take care of yourself. You deserve it. Here’s to 2021 and healthier times ahead.

I love watching our neighbors plant the seeds for next year’s crop. How what we do now brings upon a better future. Tons of reflection on this about what really matters and our mission for creating a community of Excited for 2021 and for the lessons 2020 has taught me.

Haven’t crocheted in over 10 years but decided to start this much needed week off with a little crafting. Taught my daughters too so we’re all making cozy winter scarves. Nice to finally turn my brain off and rest a bit.

Distance teaching is absolutely exhausting! Like, this is crazy hard. But today? Today I’m for cozy socks and that we’re close to a much needed Thanksgiving break. And that one of my students wanted just to chat about life with me. “I just wanted to talk with you like we would after class if we were all together.”

Our new weekend routine. Getting about 72 eggs a week (6 dozen) from our awesome chickens. Amazing egg scramble + frittata + egg bites/muffins. They’re soooo good. Set for the week. 🍳🥚🐥 Which is definitely part of my plan since every week seems to be a doozy with
