Yay or Nah!

Today’s review is on Living Proof’s Satin Hair Serum. Living proof states that this serum is powered by a Sera-Smooth Complex, which offers superior smoothness, eliminates frizz, provides natural movement, leaves hair manageable, and is faster and easier to achieve a desired smooth style. It smooths without the tradeoffs of silicones and oils, doesn’t weigh hair down, and doesn’t create product build-up. Easy to use, lightweight, and long-lasting, it leaves hair grease-free and produces a beautiful, sleek look.

In all honesty this serum has been my go to product for the last couple of weeks. I’m going on 4 months of wearing my virgin Brazilian Deep Wave Curly hair from Elle la Fait Hair Company. I wanted to try something new for a while so I decided to straighten the hair and utilize my curly wand. Before using heat, I use a small pump and warm it between my hands before applying to my hair. It’s wonderful and the hair loves it! Not much more to say about this product except living proof, is living large and taking charge with this serum! A definite Yay from me! Happy styling guys!

Yay or Nah!

It’s me again with another Yay or Nah review. Today’s product is the Stay Flawless, 15hr primer from Benefit Cosmetics.
Benefit Cosmetics proclaims that this product is a perfect example of when, “Flawless works overtime!” With great pride Benefit Cosmetics states “Our instant PRO-long primer acts like a magnet to lock on your foundation for 15 fresh & flawless hours. This invisible stick primer glides directly onto skin for optimal wear and a natural-looking finish. Go longer. Stay flawless!”

Well, from one combination skin type (Major T-zone oil action) girlie to another this primer is AMAZING! Yes, amazing. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first. As I was applying I thought, “Hmm this feels like a glue stick, I wonder if this would lay my brows down?” Bingo! It worked like a charm my brows were tamed effortlessly; by the way the glue stick feeling disappeared after a couple seconds. So onto the main point, did I stay flawless for 15hrs? Well, I didn’t make it 15hrs because I washed my face after 11hrs, but within those hours I worked 9 in the office, then headed to the supermarket, and spent time in traffic…all while sun decided to follow me the whole way home *rolls eyes*. Anyway, long story short this primer is wonderful especially for combo/oily skin types. So this receives one Yay for oil control, one Yay for minimizing the amount of times I had to dip my brush into my pressed powder for full coverage, and one last Yay doubling as a brow tamer and primer!

Thanks Benefits Cosmetics, I have now found my favorite new primer!

Originating from the Crystal Coast of NC, there is absolutely nothing the Belle loves more than fresh seafood. This week's recipe is an homage to my little friend, the mussel. No heavy lifting required :)

Broiled mussels with prosciutto
Prep and cook time: 30 minutes Serves: 4

Ingredients:
1 pound small black mussels
2 cups water
4 tbsp. butter softened
2 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 scallions, finely chopped

Prep:
Scrub mussels and remove beards. Bring water to boil in large saucepan. Add mussels, cover; boil about 3 minutes or until mussels open

Drain mussels, discard liquid. Break open shells; discard top shell. Loosen mussels from shells with a spoon; return mussels to shells, place in single layer on baking sheet

Preheat broiler
Combine butter, prosciutto, garlic and scallion in small bowl

Divide butter mixture over mussels; broil about 3 minutes or until lightly browned.

Plate in large serving bowl and garnish with lemon wedges and additional green onion for color.

Yay or Nah?

Today’s “Yay or Nah” review is on Pop Beauty’s latest mascara craze, the Peak Performance Mascara. I came in contact with this wonderful creation during my recent visit to NYC to work with the Pop Beauty brigade and immediately fell in love!

According to the Pop Beauty troop, the Peak Performance Mascara is a revolution in mascara application! Mascara with advanced lash comb separates, coats, lifts & fans out every lash, resulting in immense lash volume & dramatically maximized eyes. Lash-protecting formula conditions & nourishes lashes. Hygienic twist-up wand prevents bacteria build up & formula dry out, ensuring fresh new mascara every time.

I know, I know close your mouth. Mind blowing right? Ladies and gents this mascara does exactly what is says and more. I being the germaphobe that I am loved the hygienic twist up and it instantly gained my vote of confidence! So if you’re wondering, this product gets three Yay’s from the mountain top of the cosmetic peaks! This mascara comes in three lovely colors, black, brown and blue. The Belle is about balancing our indulgences with healthier choices. For you lovely herbivores, here is a meatless treat in our Tapas series. Ready in ten minutes and scrumdiddlyumptious!! Bon appetit!

Grilled Zucchini and Cheese Canapes

Ingredients: (serves 8 as an appetizer)

2 baguette of choice, sliced into thin rounds (I like oblong ones and I prefer them toasted).
1/2 pound (100 grams) fresh white cheese, sliced to top each slice of bread. (mozzarella or feta are my go to for veggie combinations)
2 medium to large sized zucchinis (or 2-3 smaller ones), sliced on the diagonal (so that the slices mimic the bread)
2 roasted red peppers, peeled and sliced into strips
a spritz of olive oil
salt and cracked black pepper to taste

Preparation:

Slice your bread and arrange on a serving plate.
Heat a skillet over medium high heat and lightly spritz with olive oil.
Quickly pan grill the zucchini slices until lightly browned on both sides.
Layer cheese, then zucchini slices, and garnish with a slice of pepper.
Season with salt and pepper and serve.

The Belle is back from a brief hiatus and I have a new favorite thing...Tapas! They are the versatile Spanish appetizer that has endless possibilities for your next intimate gathering. Stay tuned for weekly ideas. This week the Shrimp Fritter...yummy!

Ingredients
•1/2 pound small shrimp, peeled
•1 1/2 cups chickpea or regular flour
•1 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
•3 scallions, white part and a little of the tender green tops, finely chopped
•1/2 teaspoon sweet pimento (aka sweet paprika)
•Salt
•Olive oil for deep-frying

Preparation

In a saucepan, combine the shrimp with water to cover and bring to a boil over high heat. As soon as the water starts to boil, quickly lift out the shrimp with a slotted spoon and set aside. Scoop out 1 cup of the cooking water and let cool. Discard the remaining water. When the shrimp are cool, cover and refrigerate until needed.

To make the batter, combine the flour, parsley, scallions and pimentón in a bowl or a food processor. Add a pinch of salt and the cooled cooking water. Mix or process well until you obtain a texture slightly thicker than a pancake batter. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Remove the shrimp from the refrigerator and mince finely. The pieces should be the size of coffee grounds. Remove the batter from the refrigerator, add the shrimp, and mix well.

Pour the olive oil to a depth of about 1 inch into a heavy sauté pan and heat over high heat until it is almost smoking. Add 1 tablespoon of the batter to the oil for each fritter and, using the back of the spoon, immediately flatten the batter into a round 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Do not crowd the pan.

Fry, turning once, for about 1 minute on each side, or until the fritters are golden and very crisp with what Spanish cooks call puntillas, or lacelike formations, on the borders.

Using a slotted spoon, lift out the fritters, holding them briefly over the pan to allow the excess oil to drain, and transfer to an ovenproof platter lined with paper towels to drain further.

Keep the fritters warm in a low oven. Fry the rest of the batter in the same way, always making sure the oil is very hot before frying more fritters.

When all the fritters are fried, arrange them on a platter and serve immediately.

Yay or Nah?

Hi guys! I’m back and I’ve decided to start a series called “Yay or Nah” where I review new products (maybe some oldies but goodies) and give you the skinny on it! Please feel free to message us if you have a product you would like us to review as well. Today’s review will be on the latest Marc Jacob Fragrance “Honey”. According to the Jacobs camp, Honey by Marc Jacobs is a sunny delicious floral - energetic and alluring, with a sparkling, golden touch. The perfect mix of brightness and warmth. The fragrance energizes with the freshness of green pear brightened with a splash of fruity punch and juicy mandarin. At the heart of the fragrance is orange blossom, a note of sparkling femininity that mingles with nectars of honeysuckle and peach. Honey, vanilla and smooth woods dry down to a warm, golden base.

Top Note – Pear, Juicy Mandarin
Mid Note – Orange Blossom, Peach Nectar, Apricot, Honeysuckle
Base Note – Honey, Golden Vanilla, Smooth Woods

This fragrance receives a huge YAY, from me. Just in time for the summer, this fragrance gives a sweet scent without being overbearing. If you’re into citrus and vanilla scents then this fragrance is for you. Not as if I expected anything less from Marc and his crew, but this one blew my senses! Stop by your local fragrance counter or Sephora and catch a whiff of this one today! Until next time, two fingers honey dips! Muah!

Tinted Moisturizer vs. BB vs. CC, the must have summer accessory.

Let’s face it, no literally let’s talk about our face. As much as we may love sunshine and summer heat, wearing full on makeup during this season does not always mix. Between sweat and humidity, your face is screaming for freedom. Well, let me introduce to some and update for others…Madame BB and Madame CC cream! I know you’re wondering who these ABC people are, so stay tuned for notes on what could turn out to be your summer BFF!

Let’s start with the origin of the BB and CC creams, which is a tinted moisturizer. A tinted moisturizer is a moisturizing cream or lotion with a slight tint that provides a lightweight, sheer to medium coverage, while softening fine lines. Tinted moisturizer can be applied to the entire face, in the same way as you would apply a daily moisturizer, in a circular motion to work the product into the skin.

What is a BB Cream?
BB creams better known as beauty balm or blemish creams in most Asian countries, are like tinted moisturizers with additional protective and hydrating properties. In addition to hydrating and evening out skin tones, BB creams also treat the skin with antioxidants or other anti-aging ingredients, prime the skin for long wear and include SPF.

What is a CC cream?
CC creams are the most recent products to hit the shelves in the beauty world. CC creams take all the benefits of the BB cream and combine it with color correcting powers. CC means color correcting and its benefits are meant to address issues like redness or sallow skin.

The light weight feel and dewy finish of tinted moisturizers and BB/CC creams are perfect to trips to the beach, picnics in the park or just a daily option for you during the summer months. Don’t like the dewy look, use a translucent setting powder to set the cream. These creams leave you with the confidence that your next vacation won’t turn into a reenactment of the Wizard of Oz “I’m melting, I’m melting…” Enjoy the heat love bugs! Check out my fav’s below!
