Web Summit Vancouver provided valuable perspectives on how British Columbia is advancing the next phase of technological progress. Two sessions highlighted how the province’s innovation landscape is evolving and the enablers for its continued growth. It was a pleasure to reconnect in person with panel speaker Nicholas Ning, who assumed multiple roles throughout the summit.

• Partnering to Grow B.C.’s Leading Tech Sector

– The session spotlighted a discussion with Premier David Eby on advancing B.C.’s leading tech sector through collaboration between government and the private sector, contributing to the growth of a more resilient economy amid global uncertainty. It highlighted government efforts in supporting innovation while building pathways to well‑paid careers for people across the province.

• AI x Quantum: Why British Columbia Is Positioned to Lead the Next Computing Wave

– The panel explored B.C.’s strengths in next‑generation computing, and covered frontier technologies such as AI and quantum that are projected to drive major change in the years ahead. The discussion emphasized the need to retain and scale technologies invented in the province, and examined areas requiring strengthening, including advancing technologies and MVPs toward commercialization. It highlighted the importance of broader uptake of locally developed technologies to bridge the commercialization gap, and the need to increase executive‑level and top ML talent, along with stronger talent retention to drive AI and quantum adoption. The session also underscored the importance of raising benchmarks to world‑class levels to compete with top companies at a global scale.

May was a dynamic month, highlighted by our participation in Web Summit Vancouver 2026 following Vancouver Startup Week. Sustaining strong momentum, we at TEKG Solutions Inc. explored emerging technologies and cross‑sector developments driving current innovation.

Across a diverse range of programming, including technical and economic development sessions, startup showcases, marketing summits, professional meetups and networking sessions, we gained clearer insight into today’s business and technology landscape.

We were pleased to connect with leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs whose expertise and global perspectives enriched our overall experience. We likewise valued reconnecting with the diverse entrepreneurs we met at VSW 2026, extending the exchanges that have contributed to this season’s engagements.

Amid recent active engagements in innovation and entrepreneurial events, with Vancouver Startup Week and Web Summit in close succession alongside operational responsibilities and supporting school‑aged young dependents, the period has been intensive yet notably rewarding.

Reflecting on VSW 2026, TEKG Solutions Inc.’s exhibition at the Ecosystem Showcase served as a key highlight of our organization’s participation, complemented by substantial networking and several noteworthy sessions.

• Competition Law 101 for Businesses

– A session presented by the Competition Bureau Canada that outlined how competition law applies to businesses and reviewed the importance of competition, principal restraints on competition, recent enforcement cases, and compliance program elements. It reinforced that competition compliance is an integral component of corporate risk management.

• Negotiating SAFEs and Term Sheets with VCs

– Voyer Law Corporation presented an informative panel session that reviewed SAFEs, term sheets, and side letters, clarified standard versus negotiable terms, highlighted where founders risk losing value or control, and incorporated investor perspectives. The session was particularly valuable for founders entering their first VC negotiations.

• IP Summit

– Presented by New Ventures BC with provincial partners, this conference examined the intersection of AI, open source, and intellectual property rights, and underscored the need for robust strategies as AI complicates IP protection, the tangible benefits of patenting, the value of resilient IP portfolios beyond licensing, and the importance of building strong teams to support IP commercialization.

• AI Club at VSW

– The AI Club convened engineers, founders, and builders to share product demos and discuss LLMs and agentic engineering. The session offered a grounded view of current AI advancements and fostered strong technical networking with peers developing production‑grade AI systems and others deploying AI technologies.

• Men in Tech 3.0

– A thoughtfully designed and engaging role reversal exercise presented by Toast, in which senior male tech leaders responded to the kinds of reductive questions women in tech continue to encounter, creating an engaging yet substantive discussion on persistent gender-based double standards.

Brief moments captured with Gillian Emerson and Will Fan reflect just one facet of the many meaningful connections made with exceptional leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs throughout the week.
